Overview

An escape from the hustle and bustle of city life for more than 100 years, Claremont Club & Spa, A Fairmont Hotel, nestled in the Berkeley hills with stunning views of the Bay Area, is a place where Old World charm meets modern elegance. Forbes Travel Guide says, “The pristine white facade, polished wood floors and rich rugs and upholstery immediately create a sense of sophistication, without being overly stuffy or pretentious."

Guest rooms are bright, airy and vary in size and decor, but all include flat-screen TVs, well-stocked minibars and a coffee machine. Make the most of your stay by upgrading to a Bay view room. Amenities are plentiful, with multiple pools, tennis courts and a supervised kids club. Recently named the "Best Hotel Gym" by Shape Magazine (2019), the state-of-the-art fitness center rivals any other high-end club and boasts 90 fitness classes a week. "The hotel’s centerpiece is the spa," says Conde Nast Traveler. Treat yourself to relaxation in the eucalyptus steam room, saline hot tubs or with one of the many treatment options.

For creative, inventive cocktails and regionally sourced dishes, visit Limewood Bar & Restaurant. Even better, enjoy them at sunset on the terrace for a seriously spectacular view of San Francisco Bay. Or if you prefer a relaxed afternoon sipping tea, make sure to check out the Lobby Lounge (advanced reservations for the tea service are encouraged). And opening this winter, East Bay Provisions! will be a family friendly café and wine bar with artisan-roasted coffee, breakfast pastries, breads, and hand selected local wines.

Food, shopping, ferry rides and museums can be found at Jack London Square, which is about a 15-minute drive by car. College Avenue around the corner is also a great spot for dining options. For those looking for city adventure, San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland are all within a 30-minute drive.

We were upgraded to a room with a view of the Bay which was lovely. The room was spacious and comfortable. The facilities are very nice — we especially enjoyed using the state-of-the-art fitness facilities (pilates reformers and nautilus equipment). Would highly recommend catching sunset from the lobby bar — snag a seat by the window in the Hillary room for an especially unique experience.

I had always wanted to go to the Claremont, this was an anniversary trip and we enjoyed the facilities very much. The club and pools were wonderful and the view incredible.

I was surprised that the property wasn't in better condition, many of the rugs through out the hotel, especially in front of the registration were very dirty and stained. There was some sort of work going on above us that woke us up every night around 3:00 AM, wasn't expecting this type of work to be completed in the middle of the night even though there were signs around about remodeling.

We enjoyed the visit but underestimated the cost of the "extras" in budgeting this trip.

We were awaken on Monday morning by the fire alarm in this old eight story wooden structure. Obviously this was very disturbing-but I guess better than the alternative.

Room was tiny (and hotel a bit disorganized) but the pool, gym and spa made up for everything. Pool with a view! And TravelZoo deal was 1/2 the usual price.

I live about 8 blocks away; took a staycation. Eat at other (far better) East Bay restaurants. Don't spend a lot of time in your room. Just revel in everything else...

I enjoyed the gym, pool and sauna facilities they were great! I used the kids club facility and the staff was great but they need to freshen up the facility such as brighten it up and get some new toys.

Beautiful view, modern yet historic

The front desk rep Sara didn't notice that our package came with parking, then once we alerted her to that, she acknowledged it then immediately forgot to activate the feature on our keycard. This caused us to get stuck at the exit with a line of cars behind us. Also, we wondered why it was super hot in our room when we arrived, but quickly realized this was probably by design, as the A/C unit was EXTREMELY noisy. I'd imagine they don't want guests to notice the sound right out of the gate? We had to wear earplugs in order to sleep. The front desk acknowledged that it's a common problem for guests. Nice property overall, but I probably won't ever return for an overnight stay.

Friendly, courteous and helpful staff; historic wooden hotel; swimming pools

Quality of food at the Limewood varies--both of us enjoyed the parsnip soup but our entrees, the Tamari and Citrus Marinated Tofu and the sea bass, disappointed.
