"We really enjoy our stay at Sonoma Coast villa. Check in was quick and easy and everyone was very friendly and pleasant. The only compliant was there were no hair dryer in the room and we called to ask for one, but it was never delivered to our room. The resort is very clean and relaxing, we definitely go back."

Overview

Sonoma Coast Villa & Spa is a quaint and charming stay located in California Wine Country. The hotel is an easy drive to more than 40 wineries in the Russian River Valley. The hotel is also located just six miles from Bodega Bay, a quintessential California coastline.

The rooms are spacious and relaxing with secluded patios and wood-burning fireplaces; most even have radiant heated flooring in the bathrooms. All king rooms also boast in-room Jacuzzi tubs. The décor is inspired by the Italian countryside, with slate flooring, rustic beam ceilings and calming earth tones.

The hotel restaurant, with new executive chef Michael Mullins, serves dishes with organic ingredients and wines from the local wineries. The on-site nine-hole putting green is a nice activity between wine tastings as is the spa. Some of the best Sonoma wineries, as noted by Food & Wine magazine, are an easy 30-minute drive north into the Russian River wine region. The hotel is also close to several Sonoma County parks, where guests can take a picnic and soak up the natural beauty – or, for those who prefer retail therapy, the Coddingtown Mall, Montgomery Village and Santa Rosa Plaza are all an easy drive from the hotel.

All of the people we interacted with were very nice. If ownership follows through on improvement plan, this will be a much better place in a year. Employees seem enthusiastic about the changes and the potential.

The rooms were in need of refreshing. Previously "silent partner" is now taking a more hands on role. We had issues with the television, the heat and the water. Water went out throughout the hotel for a night owner says he will give a 30% credit on the stay. Waiting to hear back from him.

The Villa is a place with great "bones" and much potential. The area offers a wide array of things to do.
Other Comments
The place has been sold; new owners take over in 3 weeks. Our stay was complicated by the fact that the present owner's wife was having surgery, so there was no dinner offering (the present owner was the dinner chef!). The new managers have begun to take over and were most pleasant and seem to be most competent. The day we left, there were lots of people showing up to begin to work on putting the place back into superior condition e.g., upgrading to I suspect original status the grounds/flora. The breakfast which was overseen by one of the managers, Celeste, was excellent. Thus, my not recommending indication below reflects current status... I would certainly go back once the transition has been completed.
