Although we stayed in a renovated "luxury" room, it still did not live up to what we would expect from the Fairmont brand. More attention to making it a bit more luxurious would go a long way.

The bar in the lobby only opens at 3:30 pm. Guests, ourselves included, had to order room service in order to get drinks delivered to the lobby. It worked out OK but direct access to the bar at noon would have been a lot more convenient.

Only criticism was the prices for the a la carte Breakfast items. It was very overpriced in my opinion. A cost of $35.00 for eggs Benedict and the other a la carte offerings when the buffet was the same price. Obviously they wanted you to choose the buffet which was very good but not for everyone.

Great place. The pool is amazing. The grounds are beautiful but the meals are over priced especially the BBQ. You paid $70 or$75 pp for all you can eat. They offered a great variety of meats but they all tasted the same. There was no variation in the bbq sauces or the marinades if they were marinated at all. In some cases the chicken was over done. They did mention that it’s really for meat lovers but a few more starches would have been good. As for the dessert it was pretty lame. A nice pie or a hearty chocolate cake or a plater of fruit. Don’t waste your money on dinner or lunch go into the town which is only 5 minutes away you’ll find better options and food. Try Le Bistro excellent food and well priced.

Hotel was comfortable but very dark. There was no attempt to assist visitors with signage, you were on your own finding the hotels amenities. On a three night stay we had a non-functioning tv fir two nights and multiple trips and calls to the front desk were required. Too bad because this hotel is touted as one of Canada’s best and sadly it didn't live up to that. The accompanying golf was great, a beautiful course, well maintained but a clubhouse that is basically shut down, no drink service or food service. Again very strange for an upscale (?) course. Overall we enjoyed the town of Montebello but not the accommodation as much.

We had a great staycation, I wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy all of the amenities. Serge at Aux Chantignoles was great, and I loved the brunch before golf. The ONLY thing that could have been improved was the flies that were near the windows in Chantignoles… distracting us from our great food. Service through was impeccable. I’ll be watching for next years Travelzoo deal!

Unfortunately, Montebello seems to be unprepared to deal with rainy weather. They offer very few outdoor activities when it is raining. It is frustrating to pay a daily resort fee for services and activities that one cannot take advantage of when it rains. I also found the quality of the dinner they served at the Aux Chantignoles restaurant to be much lower than in the past. The prices are quite high, so one would expect better quality. The last time we stayed, we selected the outdoor BBQ option and the food was excellent. Despite having a covered outdoor kitchen and tented seating areas outdoors, Montebello was not equipped to offer the BBQ option this past weekend due to the rain.

Our golf package seemed to cause some confusion and both the outdoor pool and evening BBQ were not yet open. The electricity went off on the 18th first thing in the morning (city maintenance). We were advised by the hotel once the power was off and to « compensate », they opened the outdoor pool. We were not able to shower in our room (pitch black and dangerous for a 75 and 77- year old. We therefore packed up and returned home. We also did not golf due to extreme heat - 33 and 34 degree weather.
This is one of our favorite getaways so we are somewhat disappointed as you can imagine.

The grounds are lovely and nicely kept. Muskoka chairs by the river were a nice touch. The breakfast buffet while expensive was delicious, lots of variety and fresh tastefully presented food groups. Indoor and outdoor seating in the restaurant was nice. The drinks outside on the patio and in the main lobby were very well prepared so was the food at the lunchtime outdoor stations. All the staff we interacted with were very pleasant and professional and seemed to enjoy their service jobs = always a smile. The indoor pool and hot tub were very good. Proper temperatures in each and nice ambience. The change rooms were good as well. All public areas were clean and well tended. The hotel gift shop had lovely unique items.

Hotel is in need of renovation. Old musty smell and very dark. The room was small, dark and poorly laid out. Hole in wall behind night table. Big wooden pole at the end of bed. The sheets were very stiff and starched? - uncomfortable - prefer softer sheets. The bathroom was very narrow for bathing - getting in and out was tricky. ...this was a pet-friendly room. My friend who did not have a small dog with them and booked through Allure(?) got a much nicer room on the same floor. Even though we both had 1:00 p.m. late check-outs as per your directive and my friends - we were told check out was Noon. The outdoor pool and hot tub were too cool = tepid cool hot tub and weak jets. Cooler pool as well. They obviously don't heat either overnight. Cost of meals was very expensive for what you were getting if you stayed to eat dinners. The outdoor buffet was a disappointment for the price and how the food was prepared.....specifically the swordfish and meat offerings.

Impeccable service from the minute we arrived until we left & the staff were all very helpful & friendly. As our visit was right after Christmas all the decorations were up which lent a magical atmosphere to the hotel. We made use of the swimming pool & also participated in a curling clinic, which was fun. The best part was just relaxing in the massive, round lobby in front of a roaring fire. There's even a hotel dog, a handsome golden retriever, that greets the guests & even came to visit us in our room!

As our visit was in January, only the main restaurant was open which was very expensive. However, there were a few nice restaurants in the nearby village of Montebello which offered more competitively priced options. Most of the shops in the village were closed at that time but the cheese & chocolate shops were open which I would highly recommend visiting & sampling their delicious products.

we love the Montebello, our third time, each time was a different season and we hadn't yet experienced it during winter. There is so much to do at the Farimont Montebello any season of the year and I want to experience every season, we will be back in the summer.
My only complaint re our stay would be that there was never anyone at the desk if you had a question. There would be someone there during check out hours but later in day or evening, never anyone at the desk. We just wanted to ask simple questions re when outdoor fires, where to go to find snowshoes, etc. There is a bell but we didn't feel the questions posed urgency to be ringing a bell multiple times as wasn't heard on the first attempt. Our two previous stays, we didn't feel lack of front desk staff was an issue but definitely noticed it this time.
Sylvan, the restaurant server is the best we have ever come across, attentive, funny, he sets the bar high for any other servers.
We love the ambiance, the fireplace, the pool, the history, the grounds!! The Montebello has a great balance of all the amenities, upscale and yet also comfort!!! We are always disappointed that the pool is only open until 6 pm, it would be lovely to have an evening swim and hot tub but we were able to enjoy the pool a little longer with a late check-out.

Upon check in, we were told that the $20 lunch credit, which was included with the TravelZoo booking, would be applied automatically to the bill on check out. That was not the case. The staff at the front desk informed me that the TravelZoo's hotel price of $319.00 that we paid included the $20 (plus a $20 spa credit and the waiver of resort fees. I finally convinced the staff member that no, the $20 credit was apart from the cost of the room and it was credited to my bill. So all ended up well. By the way, I had the exact same problem when we booked at the Fairmont Manoir Richelieu in October through TravelZoo. That too, was rectified to my satisfaction after much insistence and phone calls to the hotel.
So, for future reference, I would like confirmation as to whether these credits and waivers of costs offered by TravelZoo are part of the hotel cost that we pay or are they actually separate from the daily cost?
Thank you,
Peter

Very nice hotel, very pleasant to relax by the fireplace, at the spa or at the pool. Massage therapists at the spa are awesome! The downside is the restaurant. There was only one ooen due to low season (Chantignole). The breakfast buffet is expensive (33$ per person + tx and tip) and they were always out of the bakery’s multi grain bread. Pastries and bagels were of subpar quality for the price. We had dinner there only once and did not go back after being very disappointed with the French Onion soup…. There is a bistro 5 minutes away that serves much better food at more reasonable prices. The only other thing my mother had an issue with was the height of the beds! This will not bother everyone, but it is a challenge for the elderly short people….The hotel is beautiful and ideal to rest and get pampered. I’d love to go back!

Our trip was marred by the truly awful check-in experience. There was a very large group holding an event at the hotel, that had arrived all together on buses at the same time as us. It’s a shame that the hotel didn’t prepare appropriately in advance for their arrival because it caused a very long wait for everyone else to get our rooms. We were in line for at least half an hour which was very frustrating. Though the staff that were serving customers and getting people checked in seemed to be working as fast as they could, It would have been nice for management to address the situation and those of us waiting.

For the value, the rooms need upgrading and the hotel is starting to show its age. In our room, we didn’t have any way to control the heat, so we had to open the window for the duration of our stay.
The sink in the bathroom was cracked and the bathtub must have had a liner placed on top of the existing tub and it would “pop” each time you walked in it. Without a fan in the bathroom also makes for uncomfortable bathroom visits for your partner. We were not given the Restaurant credit that was supposed to be included in our package.
The property is extraordinary and does create a certain feel and experience.

Love the fire, Christmas decorations and ambiance. Used to pool, tennis & squash courts and curling rink because there was no snow or ice.

Disappointed that all the animal skin lamp shades are gone. Also, the view from the dining room was nicer before all the permanent summer awning structures were placed. Ice skating would be a lot nicer as in the old paintings on the brick between dining room and lake.

The staff were very welcoming, friendly, helpful and kind! Of course, the lobby is an experience and retains the rustic, lodge feel that we were looking for. It is very cozy, as was our room and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Construction, everywhere. The fireplace was being cleaned, workers outside our room for hours starting at 8am, the carpets were being removed everywhere. The room was insanely hot.

Four of us, mature ladies, so enjoyed this amazing place! We felt special and so fortunate being there. This time of year is the best, as it sparkles with all the lights and cozy fires.

Loved walking around the property, along the Ottawa river and into the lovely village of Montebello. The staff are all so professional and friendly, most of whom have worked there for many years. The tunnel to the swimming pool made it perfectly normal to wander through the main lobby/lounge area with provided robes. And well worth the trip as the pool, hot tub, spa area are gorgeous.
None of this would have been possible for us if Travelzoo hadn't provided this discounted deal. So thank you, Travelzoo!

The foyer, restaurant and fireplace are beautiful.

The ratio of price to quality did not match, as we paid for a luxury experience and the room was not luxurious. We paid for a room with a view and the windows were very dirty.

Was amazed at the number of big dogs allowed! Wondering if there are certain rooms allocated for dogs. Don’t like the idea of sleeping in a bed a dog may have been in. Also not good for allergy sufferers.
This would be my only reason for not going back to Montebello.
Dinner was good but left still hungry, expensive for what we had. Breakfast Buffett really good.
Overall a good experience really go for the ambiance.
