Overview

Close to the Appalachian Trail, the Mountain Lake Lodge has been in business since before the Civil War and has welcomed guests since the 1930s.

Movie buffs will recognize the sandstone face of the Mountain Lake Lodge as the resort featured in the film "Dirty Dancing," but in recent years, the Lodge has reinvented itself as an adventure destination. With 22 miles of hiking and biking trails, fishing, rafting and kayaking on the New River or zip-lining through the treetops, there's lots for guests to explore. Note that a number of activities require additional fees, but complimentary activities include lawn chess, shuffleboard, bocce and use of the outdoor pool and hot tub.

Rooms offer king, queen or twin beds. North Side rooms feature views of the property's expansive front lawn, and Suites add a sitting area and jetted bathtub. It's worth mentioning that because the lodge is meant to be a true getaway and an older property, rooms do not include televisions or air conditioners (fans are included in all rooms). However, between exploring the outdoors, dining at Harvest, the farm-to-table restaurant, and chatting around the fireplace in the lobby or over drinks at the Stony Creek Tavern, you should be able to get along without it.

We are senior citizens, the stairs we had to traverse were difficult for us. We had to call for help to off load our luggage from the car and the reverse when we left, but the staff was very good about helping.

Unfortunately we were there when most things were shut down for the off-season, but the property was nice and the staff was very friendly.

its a nice wedding venue, lovely mountain location, but the lake is dried up. Would be good for couples or families, everything shuts down at 10pm, and best if you are a fan of the Dirty Dancing movie... because they make a huge deal about that. small nice pool, volleyball, tetherball, corn hole, walking trails...

Seeing the area where the movie was filmed. Getting to read the script while watching the movie.

The staff went above and beyond answering our questions and were exceptionally friendly. I liked that there are no TV's in the rooms and we had open windows with screens so lots of fresh air, no A/C and it was very comfortable. The photos of the history of the Lodge adorning the walls were interesting as well. A Special Thank You goes to Jessica who took time out for us to give us a personal tour.

Disappointed that there was no “lake” at the Mountain LAKE Lodge! Food was a little pricey, but it was good.
