Why We Love It

  • This is a party hotel -- the Olympic-size pool attracts a young and lively scene on weekends
  • "A hip retreat" per Conde Nast Traveler and one of Palm Springs' "coolest boutique hotels," according to Fodor's
  • On-site restaurant El Jefe serves up authentic Mexican street food
  • Amenities include private patios or balconies, morning yoga classes, a bocce ball court, spa and downtown transfers

The Saguaro Palm Springs opened to acclaim in 2012 and swiftly picked up a chic, loyal following and rave reviews from Conde Nast Traveler, which calls it a "hip retreat with the help of psychedelic colors." The property is located on the quieter southern end of Palm Springs, though the colorful, retro décor is anything but muted.

The hotel has a trendy on-site restaurant, El Jefe, where guests can sip freshly made specialty cocktails like the Tipsy Cactus and enjoy small plates like short rib tacos or spinach quesadillas.

The hotel’s best feature, however, is its pool deck with two hot tubs and an Olympic-size pool, which stays open late. It attracts a lively crowd on summer weekends, when the DJ spins all day long and the deck buzzes with the young and trendy. The stunning mountain backdrop only makes it more picturesque. Take note, however: During the week, the partiers head back to LA, and the hotel scene is much quieter and more family oriented.

The hotel may be small, but it isn’t short on amenities. There’s a 24-hour gym, yoga classes every morning and a shuttle bus that provides transport to downtown Palm Springs. There’s also a bocce ball court, a small spa and bikes with which to explore the surrounding mountain trails.

The rooms are fun with purple carpets, handcrafted Mexican furniture, vintage prints and striped bedspreads. Suites have separate living rooms, and almost every room has a balcony or patio. The hotel is pet friendly and there is non-refundable $50 fee.

The hotel itself is beautiful and picturesque, but the rooms are basic. There was an issue with my booking through Travelzoo, and the front desk staff and manager were unhelpful and rude about the situation. (Except the man who worked at night who was very peasant but could not help me.)

Pool could be nice.

Hotel was under construction. Pool bar was not open. No information in room or otherwise provided on things like room service, do not disturb, etc. Room cleaners knocked on door every day before 9AM, sometimes when we were still sleeping. Staff in restaurant were not courteous or helpful. Seemed to be operating on a skeleton crew.

The only think I like about the Saguaro was the pool.

I have about 3 complaints about this hotel. First complaint was the Check-in/Front Desk Staff - The young lady that checked us in wasn't very friendly, she doesn't seem like she want to be at her job. All she did was print out ours confirmation and didn't really explain how we get to ours room, wifi information, ask if we need any help to our room or with ours luggages, etc. I have to asked her all of that. She seem very bored of what what she was doing. My second complaint was my room view, I booked with Travelzoo for King Size with Poolview, but our room barely have the pool view, I also took a picture if you needed, we were in room 246, the viewed was a hammocks. Third and final complaint, was when we call the front desk if we can get late checked out, they told me that they are super busy and need all the room they can get. Please it the end of September and we saw so many empty room when we were there. It was such a generic answered. He told us if we want to do late checked out it will be additional $79.99 just for an extra hour. Overall, I wish the staff was better trained and gave us what we pay for as well.

The outside was gorgeous! Beds were comfortable. Food was very good (although again, there was a significant charge for room service that was not listed).
Other Comments

When we arrived there, they can't find my reservation thru travelzoo, I called travelzoo and they called the hotel, there seems to be a mixed up. The place is good enough, the hotel lay out will confuse you at first, it's like we always have to go out to find our way in. The bar made a very good watermelon margarita and the ambience is really nice.
Other Comments
If they can make more signs for people to go around the hotel, like this is the way to the pool, the concierge, etc. We see a lot of people lost too trying to get around the hotel.
