Overview

Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, a sprawling chalet-style resort that takes inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright's prairie-style architecture and design, is one of Wisconsin's best hotels (U.S. News & World Report Travel).

Rooms are country chic with leather armchairs and antique-style furniture, plush cotton bedding, minifridges, coffee service and bottled water. The resort features seven different restaurants, cafes and lounges including the Geneva ChopHouse and Ristorante Brissago, both winners of multiple OpenTable Diners' Choice awards.

In winter, guests can hit the slopes on Grand Geneva's Mountain Top ski hill with 21 downhill runs (lift tickets start at $28 and ski rentals are available). Guests can also go snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, sledding and snowshoeing; theres also an outdoor firepit.

Guests can also hit the indoor water park at the the nearby Timber Ridge sister resort with heated waterslides and a lazy river (passes available to guests for an additional fee). In the warmer months, guests can take advantage of the two on-site golf courses and nearby attractions like cruises on Geneva Lake or zip-lining tours.

The resort is located just 10 minutes from downtown Lake Geneva — sometimes referred to as "the Hamptons of the Midwest" — with its many boutique shops, restaurants, bars and popular public beach.

It was a great weekend at the resort, but the rooms could use a bit more cleaning and the hallways were very out-of-date.

Resort was nice. We had a great time skiing and swimming. The room was not ready by check in time unfortunately. Had to wait till after 4. Inconvenience by this since it gave us little time to prepare for our dinner reservations.

We really enjoyed the fact that there was a very large gym/spa/pool across the road that we could use. Not only during our stay, but also after we had checked out.

In the Travelzoo offer, the Grand Geneva Resort deal was advertised by a photo of a featured ice skating rink. We booked two rooms, this being one of our most desired features. When we asked about it upon check-in, we were told, 'Oh, that's not open.' Why? Because it's being resurfaced to add lights beneath the surface. Is this indicated on their website? Nope! The next morning upon checking out, the front desk person asked if everything was okay. I said, not really, due to the ice skating rink being closed. She responded, 'Oh, it's open--it's not not closed.' When I explained what I was told the day before, she said, 'Well that's the first I ever heard of it.' Seriously? Both staff members were very formal with their 'we are sorry for the inconvenience ma'am' lines, which I found pretty dismal for a resort of this level. Other issues we experienced: being woken up at 8am by housekeeping vacuuming the entire length of our hotel hallway; clothes still in the drawer of our room from a previous guest, as well as a half-drunk bottle of water in the fridge; a grand piano in the otherwise lovely lounge that was so loud, we couldn't even sit and have a conversation. And finally, a 'TV in the bathroom mirror' doesn't make up for any of it. It's just plain weird. Really expected more out of a resort at this price point, but it was terribly underwhelming with really poor service. Would never recommend it to any of my friends or family.

The waitress at the restaurant was extremely rude and impatient. The rooms were comparable to a Super 8, and were very disappointed!

The Grand Geneva is one of my absolute favorite hotels around. Their Christmas decorations around the whole hotel are absolutely spectacular -- just beautiful and magical. It is a must to see even if you don't stay at the resort.
