Couple of quirks for hotel to look at. Shower in Ladies changing room in spa was stuck on very hot. Also, even though we were due to check out at 12:00, the keys stopped working at 11:00 which is a bit embarrassing when you have just come out of spa and have to go to reception in a towel to get key fixed.

This is our fifth visit the hotel and we chose it on this occasion to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary. There is not one particular thing I would pick out about this hotel as the whole ackage is excellent quality. Only one thing let it down was the room was in a corridor that had not undergone refurbishment. Our room was very tired but this did not affect our stay

The morning breakfast was disappointing, empty dishes having to wait for them to be filled for a period of time. When you did manage to load your plate it was all cold apart from the Hash Browns and there was not many people in for breakfast. Not really impressed with there new open planned dining area, feels like a canteen now. Much preferred it as it was before. However saying all this have stayed many times before and it was very enjoyable, perhaps this was a one off.

1) Not being told by Travelzoo that the hotel was undergoing refurbishment. 2) Sharing the restaurant at breakfast with some of the workers engaged on the refurbishment (in their work overalls etc). 3) Describing the hotel as being on the fringe of the Peak District, whereas no mention wass made of the fact that it is adjacent to the M1 Motorway. 4) Being woken up throughout the night by partygoers. All in all, a very poor experience which reflects badly on Travelzoo.

The bar and restaurant is one huge space which during the day is as dreary as an airport canteen and in the evening is positively gloomy. The corridor to the room was completely pale grey and featureless. It is not a hotel being refubished, but changing to a Holiday Inn. One room was not ready and one we were moved to had blocked drain problem and smelt. Third room was ok!The food was mediocre for the price and menu the same in bar and dining room area. There was little to distinguish between these two areas. Vegetarian choice was poor and on the two consecutive nights we were there there was an error with the same vegetarian salad that had been ordered. We felt that although the issues were resolved eventually, the management were not supporting the quite young and inexperienced
staff when problems arose.

The food was great, Apart from the staff member who refused to help with the key card, the staff were great. It is a shame because we have stayed there several times and it a useful stop over area for us.
Other Comments
On arrival we were asked if we wanted to pay extra for a refurbished room, it was late, we had driven many hours that day and even more the previous day and it had been a difficult emotional day. As a diabetic I needed to eat and sleep so just said we were fine with what was ready for us. What we were not told that the heating could not be adjusted and the air conditioning was not working! Consequently we slept really badly as it was incredibly hot and we couldn't open the windows! The lack of sleep did not make for an easy journey home the following day. This is sad because we have had good stays here in the past and, had we been told about the problem we would have happily paid £10 for the upgrade. The following morning after breakfast we had to return to reception 3 times to get a key card to work and we were as far as is possible from reception. A member of staff checking rooms said she couldn't help because of safety issues. While I understand this, we were desperate at this point to get out into some fresh air ! We had called earlier in the day, which took several attempts to get an answer ,to inform them of our late arrival and to check that we could still get a meal, so the problem with the room.could have been mentioned then.

The Hotel is undergoing major refurbishment, which we had no idea about until we arrived. The main reception was a building site and no clues where to go to check in, a work man eventually pointed us to an unmarked side door. To get to the restaurant you had to exit the building, not much fun in the recent weather, no signs to direct you, not much atmosphere, and the menu seemed quite limited. We have visited this hotel many times before and always enjoyed it, the food has been outstanding but this visit was very disappointing and we would think twice about returning.

The hotel was undergoing refurbishment so not all rooms open, also the reception was in a small annexe and you had to walk outside and round the front to reach the dining room on our ist night which was In garden room and very cold. On the 2nd night the new dining room was open but again very cold. Hopefully when all refurbishments are done the hotel will be much better. The staff however were extremely friendly and helpful.

It is being revamped and re-named to a Holiday Inn. The new restaurant is more like a motorway service restaurant. There was no ambiance and it was very noisy due to the modern decor. Have been to the Derbyshire several times before, enjoyed the atmosphere and ambience of the hotel and especially enjoyed sitting in the bar area to have a drink. Unfortunately this time they were having extensive building work done, and therefore no bar area to go sit in and room that had been converted to the restaurant was very cold.
This was a break for my husband who needed a bit of down time, and unfortunately wasn't, what it was the last times we had been.
I feel that we should have been made away of these building works before we booked as we was looking at another hotel as well and would have made an impact on our choice.

We have been to this hotel before and enjoyed our stay and this is why we came back. We were disappointed this time because we were not told of the renovations being undertaken. Whilst we understand this has to happen we should have been made aware and then we could have decided whether to continue with the booking. Also the food was no where near as nice as last time. Because we had enjoyed the food so much last time we asked our friends to come with us on this occasion and feel we let them down. This combined with having to walk outside through the car park to the restaurant did not help our experience.
