Just about everything. Place was a building site, should not have been open during building transition. Room smelled of damp and mould, dirty carpets, mould in the bathroom, and coupled with the smell of building dust permeating throughout the hotel, made for a very unpleasant experience. Breakfast food was generally pretty good, spoilt unfortunately by the plates being stone cold, resulting in cold food by the time you got back to your table. We had actually been booked in for two nights, but decided one was more than enough. Checkout staff did give us the option to change rooms, but in my opinion, we shouldn’t have been put in that room in the first place. Bar area was unusable, and the staff attitude to our reason for leaving was basically “ah well”, sorry. Really surprised that this hotel deal was being offered up by travellzoo, because all previous deals we have taken up have been good value for money and of a high standard. All in all, very disappointing.

Convenience but for dog owners not so good. Grounds ok for immediate relief but proper walks you need a car

Unknown to us the hotel was under large scale renovation the bedrooms were tired on arrival the trouser press didnt work and although they replaced it it should have been checked the first time. The handset lead of the telephone kept falling out the base set the television mains lead kept falling out of the television itself. The bathroom smelt as though there were permanently non completely dried clothes in there possibly mould. The decoration was poor the windows were old and didnt stop road noise from the M1 and A38. You had to go outside the main building to enter the dinning room just never ending. You or the hotel didnt advise as to the building work and if they say anything about the bedrooms being renovated, well they shouldnt have put us in there in the first place, special offer or not.

The reason for not going back is solely because there are so many other areas to explore.

The hotel will soon be opening under the Holiday Inn banner and as can be expected there is refurbishment work going on. This did not detract from our visit or cause any notable disruption to us.

On arrival the (pleasant) seems confused with the booking - Wasn't aware of evening meal booking for 6 at 7pm; Had not reserved one twin room and Told us original payment had been rejected so we needed to pay £237.00. As we were having a friends reunion and would have liked a Lounge facility - not available due to major construction work which we had not been made aware of. The 3 rooms allocated were slightly substandard and dated but very clean. Meals were very good and staff in the dining room excellent.
