"The hospitality of the employees' is what I enjoyed most. I enjoyed talking to them because they worked hard to make my stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I especially enjoyed being greeted on our arrival by a friendly, well trained brown labrador retriever that belonged to one of the lobby employee's"

High in the Colorado Rockies sits the chateau-style Lodge & Spa at Cordillera, offering guests an elegant Wild West experience with breathtaking views from every room and an abundance of outdoor activities. Local 5280 Magazine calls it a "true escape" and says it’s "the forget-your-worries-because-you’re-on-top-of-the-world feeling that makes the lodge so compelling."

What you get up to really depends on the season. In winter, take a horse-drawn sleigh ride or go skiing at Beaver Creek and Vail, where you'll find some of the most challenging slopes in the country. There is a complimentary shuttle to the hotel’s ski-in/ski-out club houses -- spaces are limited, so book in advance.

In the warmer months, explore the Gore Range's bike and hiking trails, try your hand at fly-fishing, play golf at one of the three courses (one designed by US Open Champ Hale Irwin) or embrace your inner adrenaline-junkie with white-water rafting. The hotel's spa is worth a visit all year-round, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the mountains and heated indoor and outdoor pools.

The 56 bedrooms are spacious (the smallest are 430 square feet) and some feature a patio or balcony with panoramic views over the Vail Valley. The Loft Suite has two floors and can happily accommodate a family of four.

On site, there are two dining options -- the gourmet Mirador for Mediterranean fare and the Irish pub, Grouse on the Green. The bright lights of Edwards, where you'll find numerous restaurants and a lively nightlife scene, are only a 10-minute drive away.

Other Comments: Out of all their rooms it appeared to us they only have 4 without a balcony and although they were less than 50% occupied they gave us a room without a balcony. When we asked for one with a balcony they said it would be an extra $20 per night. Perhaps Travelzoo or the Lodge should have advised that the Travelzoo voucher was not good for a room with a balcony. We would not have purchased it.

Enjoyed Most: Friendly staff Great waiter, Tom, at Mirador Beautiful setting and attractive hotel pleasant spa
Other Comments: Carpeting throughout hotel and rooms is badly in need of replacement...gave the initial appearance of being dirty and shabby for such a beautiful hotel.

Enjoyed Most: They have promised us a refund and complementary nights for our use later on. We're not sure how we will be reimbursed. We would appreciate it if a travelzoo expert could contact us to discuss that process!
Other Comments: We were denied a room because the Lodge and Spa had overbooked. They attempted to put us in a motel about five miles away, but we were not satisfied with that room and drove home that night.
