Why We Love This Hotel

  • In the heart of Savannah's Historic District, walking distance to the riverfront, Forsyth Park and Broughton Street shopping corridor
  • Guests can get better acquainted with the neighborhood during one of the hotel's boozy guided tours — a.k.a. Sip & Strolls (fees apply)
  • The hotel itself is one of the tallest buildings in the city and offers commanding views of downtown from guest rooms
  • You can also take in sweeping skyline views — and enjoy a couple cocktails, too — from the 15th-floor rooftop pool deck
  • Stay with confidence — read more about the hotel's enhanced safety and cleaning procedures

Overview

Sure, the Desoto Savannah may date back to 1890. Yet, we wouldn't blame you for thinking the hotel opened sometime in the last year. For instance, the lobby blends period details like lofty vaulted ceilings and crystal chandeliers with trendy furnishings and a genuinely impressive art collection curated by the Savannah College of Art & Design.

Guest rooms feel bright and modern, too, thanks to enormous picture windows overlooking downtown (we suggest upgrading to get your very own private balcony). They also feature high-end amenities like pillowtop mattresses, down duvets and pillows, as well as glass-enclosed walk-in showers and Peter Thomas Roth toiletries in the bathrooms.

Just outside the hotel, you'll be immersed in Savannah's charming Historic District. Wander through Spanish-moss-draped oak trees shading Madison Square around the block, catch a trolley tour from River Street (roughly 10 minutes walking) or check out boutiques and restaurants at Broughton Market (seven minutes walking).

It was a perfect place to stay and experience the sites of Savannah. Loved the hotel, the view, the room, everything about it. Great birthday gift to celebrate a 66 birthday with girlfriend.

We had a really great price for this (over-priced) hotel. It was very nice EXCEPT the king room did not have a mini-fridge, a microwave or a coffee maker. I consider these three items necessities NOT luxury. comfortable bed, good pillows and quality sheets. Nice bathroom and shower. Nice thick towels.

We had a corner balcony room on the 8th floor; fantastic city views. Hotel is in a great location within the historic district, so we walked everywhere and never needed our car. Staff was very helpful and accommodating when I had a special request due to food allergies. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend to others.

Rooms are nice, a little warm in areas and bathrooms could use some deep cleaning. Balconies are very small with no furniture, so probably not the best selling point. Nice to have sliding door for air. Great location with great views. Had fire alarm go off when there. No staff around to tell us what to do, if everything was ok etc. - that seemed odd and a little scary. Overall, good value for money. Services were cut back due to covid.
