Overview

The 60-acre Mandalay Bay property transports visitors from Nevada’s desert to a tropical oasis. Located at the southern end of The Strip, the resort is lined with thousands of palm trees and features a huge lagoon that has designated areas for families and adults. Kids can seek relief from the heat in the lazy river while a topless pool allows grown up guests to soak up all the sunshine they desire or try their luck at the poolside casino. Visitors of all ages will love the aquarium that holds over one million gallons of water and is home to sharks, sea turtles, jelly fish and giant stingrays.

Spacious guestrooms have sleek furnishings and spa-like bathrooms, complete with marble soaker tubs and separate glass-enclosed showers. Upgrading to suites adds luxurious amenities like separate living areas, additional bathrooms, breathtaking views and space for up to six guests.

Mandalay Bay has a vast selection of restaurants including award-winning and celebrity-endorsed options such as Charlie Palmer's Aureole and Libertine Social by James Beard Award-winning chef Shawn McClain. For drinks, guests can cool off at the 23-degree ice bar or sip cocktails with live music and views of The Strip at House of Blues Foundation Room. World-class entertainment can be found on-site with Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil, sporting events and concerts by big-name artists.

Hotel room and bath were spacious, beautiful and clean. However, it is annoying to pay for more than 2 people in a 2-queen room, to pay to make a cup of in-room coffee, and to pay for moving items inside the fridge to store your wine or doggie bag, when not even consuming those refrigerator items. It may be the norm on the Vegas Strip, but heads up to a pet peeve.

To Whom it may concern: I recently stayed at your resort this past Wednesday through Sunday for a dental conference at The Four Seasons. My whole experience was fantastic to say the least! I plan on returning to your resort in the future and recommending it highly! Except for my dinner with Colleagues at the Rivea on Saturday night. My expectations were met by the view, of course. There were 6 of us crammed at a small round table for 4. Two of us had our legs jammed against table legs and there was never room for dishes on the table. The table behind us for 2, changed to 4 and then to 2 by the time we left. What I mean by that is they kept adding tables and subtracting for comfort. It seemed in our case 3 tables for 2 would have been better. I made these reservations through my concierge 2 days prior. They were not last minute. Secondly and worstly, our waiter never knew how to explain any of the dishes on the menu, nor did he know alternatives. One of us had asked for vegetable side options and he said, only asparagus. We noticed the table next to us had a zucchini medley and asked if we could switch. He said he was unaware and would check. He never returned. He asked us if we wanted something to drink when we first sat down and we said we had to look at the menu, but some water would be great. He came and poured water and when I tasted mine it was sparkling. I said I don’t like sparkling and no one ordered sparkling, so please bring us regular water. He then brought Fiji bottles of water and changed to Fiji and others at the table said, well I will just drink this and he can pour the regular water after. There were 6 of us, he went through 3-4 bottles of sparkling to fill all of our glasses without asking before we realized it was sparkling. We got charged for all of those bottles even though we said we did not want them. Next issue, Fiji was then poured the rest of the night. I asked for tap because I am from Chicago and it seemed odd to have bottled water. He said they really did not do that, but would check and let me know. Again, he did not get back to me, but $11 for each bottle of Fiji seemed ridiculous. I would have rather had an alcohol drink for that price. Speaking of alcohol, every time we asked to order a drink after the initial time when he asked if we could order a drink, he said he would be back to take the drink order and would never follow up. So we never really ordered drinks. Lets talk about the food. The food was delicious, not too problems. But, again he never could explain anything. 3 of us got the tasting menu. 2 said, is anything raw. He said no. The fish was raw. When it came I said the fish is raw. He said, well its ceviche style. I said it’s still raw. He brought one more plate of some small sandwich dish with prosciutto or something to make up for 3 raw plates for 3 people who do not like raw food. I like sashimi and I ate a lot of it, but I didn’t order it. I ordered Carpaccio because I like raw food. Again, that is me and not the 3 men who ordered the food. 4 of us ordered the filet, 3 from the tasting menu and 1 ordered the filet from the menu a la carte. They all asked for well done, except mine- I asked for medium rare. Mine was exceptional because that was how I like it. 2 came well done and 1 came medium rare. The guy who's came medium rare did not finish it. Can you imagine a 6 feet 200 lb guy not finishing his 7 oz filet. I asked at the end if his steak was good and he said it came too rear and he did not realize it until he ate some and then just tried to fill up on the other accompaniments. Even the bus waiter asked him and he did not want to make a stink, but told him it was too rear for his taste. Other issues: I have had foi grais everywhere from all parts of Chicago restaurants to a private French chef in my home to many restaurants in France itself and I have never had Fois grais taste undercooked like this one. The men who got it with their tasting menu ate it because they had never had it before, but I know better and I did not say anything to them. They ate it because they were hungry but they said they didn’t like it. If it was made the right way they would’ve loved it, like I always have in the past. One of the other persons in our party ordered chicken and she asked how big is the chicken what comes with it and he said nothing comes with it just chicken and it’s a pretty good size so she ordered a couple sides including that asparagus that she was hoping would be zucchini. When her food came, the chicken was not huge it was a decent size and she was happy with that, but it came with peas and mashed potatoes on her plate and then she had two sides of asparagus and something else. She was unnecessarily overwhelmed by food, he steered her wrong and she had all this excess food. The dessert: I am a huge fan of limoncello and was looking forward to the dessert. Everyone was asking how big are the desserts that come with the tasting menu because we wanted to know if the six of us could share three orders of the limoncello or should we order more dessert. Our waiter said oh you probably should order more because it’s really only for one person. Since he had steered us wrong every single time for every single course I said let’s just see what happens with this dessert and we can always order more dessert. The desert is huge and they split it in half for sharing so it was perfect for six people to share three servings of the limoncello dessert. This dinner was my treat as you can see it went to my room Bill, my room was 58311 at Mandalay. Since everyone in my party were my guests they did not want to make a fuss about their food, but I am now making a fuss about our service, about our seating and about our waiter and THE WATER. I am very livid that $70 went towards water, that is ridiculous. I am especially upset since half of that water was sparkling and we never asked for it. I would like some credit towards that restaurant bill. Please respond soon. Sincerely, Dr. Linda Salmon
