My disappointment started as I tried to get through the front doors when I arrived. The doors are very heavy and I was trying to open the first set with my luggage which got caught. Then I had to go through the second heavy set of doors and the same thing happened. Meanwhile there was a hotel employee standing at a podium by the front doors!! He saw me trying to get in and never offered to help with the doors. I couldn't believe it. He just stood there.
Then checking in was so disappointing as well. The woman at the desk didn't say hello, ask me how my trip was, inform me of any possible noise that may occur in the early mornings. She didn't have a friendly personality which is so important for good customer service. Later that day, I asked her the best way to get to the Library of Congress and she just pointed south. Never said a word. I think she was mad because I disrupted her texting on her phone.
The first day was a long one and I was looking forward to a good night's sleep. Well, around 6:00 am there was this loud banging and clanging noise that lasted for at least 40 minutes. When I looked outside I saw this man rolling beer kegs and tossing them on a truck. I couldn't believe it. So much for a good night's sleep!! The same thing happened again two nights later. Now I know why they put ear plugs in the room.
I hope more Travelzoo members aren't slated to get the rooms on the side of the building with the horrible metal roof scenery and the beg keg/garbage noise.

We arrived very early prior to our check in but they had a complimentary service where they kept our bags and we were able to go sightseeing. Front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and we felt safe!

I wasn’t disturbed by the noise from the Dubliner but my son said he could even hear conversations taking place . Maybe some sort of sound proofing for the rooms it impacts.

Second time staying here, using the Travelzoo rate both times. Staycation for work related events in DC. Excellent value. close to union station. Friendly, helpful staff. Loved the self-serve coffee lounge. Dubliner restaurant has good food and drinks. Busy location so can be noisy, but they provide ear plugs! Rooms starting to show wear and tear, but have a refrigerator and free bottles of water which is not standard for most hotels. Bed mattress was wonderful! One of the best values around, especially during the week.

Visiting DC again after 50+ years was very enjoyable, and the Phoenix Park Hotel was the perfect choice for our stay. Conveniently located near the Metro at Union Station and walking distance from many tourist attractions, it was easy to get around. Though the area was noisy with emergency vehicle sirens, it IS a city, and being a retired firefighter, I understand the importance of getting through traffic. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful and provided us with everything we needed.

Great location especially for those traveling by train. Metro is just few minutes walk by which you can reach all the parts of DC

Good area. Very noisy traffic and sirens all night. Room was very small. Only enough space to walk around the bed and I hit my shin on the footboard causing bruising just to get to my side of the bed. Bath was super small. Only room for one person. TV didn't offer local stations or any streaming so was useless. The Dubliner restaurant was pretty good but very noisy. Across from Union Square so handy for train.

The hotel, Phoenix Park, was perfectly situated for us. The staff was friendly and attentive. The elevators were quick. No gym/pool nec. as the weather was fine for walking or doing anything outdoors and we didn’t need to bother with the Metro even once. There was a sweet little coffee-tea-reading lounge that was a gem. The restaurant attached to the hotel was really lively and packed so we went to a wonderful French bistro 3 mins. away.
We walked to the Capitol, Botanical gardens, and many interests at the Smithsonian Mall, as well as, the Library of Congress Live Happy Hour that allowed you to view the Main Reading Room.
Thank you for this opportunity, Travelzoo & Phoenix ~ Tell your travelers that city noise should be expected. Arriving by train is a cinch, but we used Spothero for parking close by. We would stay here again.

rooms were unique. i could not believe the floor was not carpeted. towels not on a rack but under the sink, just above the floor. noisy outside. could not believe $68 for valet parking with no other options, which was more than half the cost of the room. cleanliness was average, with someone else's stray hair in bathroom sink and shower. hallways were dirty and needed a vacuum. there were better deals and i wish i stayed somewhere else.

The price and the location couldn't be beat. It was within a couple of minutes to the Metro Station, plus being in the same location as The Dubliner was an added bonus.
Be prepared for the valet price. That's the norm in D.C. It's the convenience.
The customer service was very inconsistent. The valet was very personable, but the checkout process for all was a little different. Maybe they were just wanting you to leave.
If you are looking for location and price, this is it. If you are wanting a large room with lots of amenities, you may want to try another location.

That being said, having housekeeping trying to unlock your door at 10 a.m. (when there is clearly a noon checkout) was pretty disappointing - especially when you clearly have a do not disturb sign on the door. I do not understand why this happens on occasion while traveling.
