One of the cleanest Marriott properties I've stayed at in the continental US. Friendly, helpful staff, including housekeeping.

Good location near several colleges and plenty of restaurants. Also within walking distance of bus & subway lines & most Chicago tourist attractions.

We really liked this hotel! The location is great, when you walk in the lobby is cozy. The staff was very nice, and when you check in they offer you bottles of water, and anytime you want additional bottles you just have to ask. I did this several times over our stay for the weekend. A nice little perk! There is a restaurant bar connected which overlooks Michigan Avenue and we really enjoyed having a cocktail there. The rooms were clean and quiet. Highly recommend this hotel.

Came to town to shop for our Sons fiances wedding dress and the whole exerience was magical.. the Essex was just the frosting on the cake~. The staff was wonderful from check to the lounge bar /restaraunt! Wonderful location

There rooms are nice. The bathroom is well stocked and the products smell nice. The room comes with a robe and slippers. The coffee maker, fridge, and microwave in the building are great amenities. Nice quality but too loud to sleep.
Other Comments
The windows were not well insulated. They are metal and had ice on them inside from the freezing weather outside. There was extremely loud thumping at least 5 times during the night that sounded like the roof would cave in by how loud it was. Guests on my floor were going in and out of their rooms letting the door slam every other minute between 10 to midnight. Presumably a party of people together without conjoined rooms. And continually in the hallway talking loudly and screaming as late into the morning at 5 am. I came there to sleep and got no sleep because of the clientele there. The windows also let in a lot of city noise, music, sirens.
