No visit to the nation’s capital is complete without a stop by Washington, D.C.’s famed Kennedy Center on the Potomac River, which hosts dance, orchestra, symphony and theatrical events. Ford’s Theatre, where President Lincoln was assassinated, still puts on performances as it has been since the 1860s. But the most popular attractions in D.C. remain the vast network of museums, primarily the 19 from the Smithsonian Institution, most on the National Mall. Some of the most popular include Cooper–Hewitt, National Design Museum, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, National Air and Space Museum and the free National Zoological Park.
