"The Tallest in the World" is one of the most coveted titles a building can have. For most of the twentieth century, the United States reigned supreme with the Woolworth Building, Empire State Building and Sears Tower holding their positions as champs ... that was until the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia came along in 1998 to take the crown.
Since then, both Asia and the Middle East have become the epicenter in the race to the top. Seven out of the current top 10 are based in Asia with China in the lead with five. By 2022, the top three will be based in the Middle East with the remaining seven in Asia.
