Los Angeles fires: Here's how to help

Jan 15, 2025

This month, the world watched as multiple deadly wildfires devastated Los Angeles County. Lives were lost, countless acres burned, and the economic impact is predicted to be close to $300 billion.

I’m a Travelzoo deal expert, and Los Angeles has been my home for the better part of 40 years. Despite LA's urban sprawl, close-knit neighborhoods—like wildfire-ravaged Pacific Palisades and Altadena—face uncertain futures.

Now more than ever, LA feels smaller than it ever has. We all know someone who’s been personally touched by this tragedy. So, we’ve all been mobilizing. Gathering supplies, volunteering at shelters, fostering pets. I’ve never seen the city come together the way it has right now.

Los Angeles will rise from the ashes and rebuild even better, welcoming everyone back (or for the first time). I’m excited to call this beautiful city my home, but we need your help.

How to help

The American Red Cross provides food, shelter and health services to evacuees. The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation supports the work of firefighters battling wildfires. World Central Kitchen prepares and delivers meals to first responders and families affected by the fires.

Community Organized Relief Effort’s emergency response team is providing masks and other protective equipment in areas where air quality is a concern. Baby2Baby is supporting children and families who have their homes with items such as diapers, food and hygiene products. Pasadena Humane is providing medical services and emergency boarding to animals and pets who have been impacted by the fires.

You can also donate directly to families and individuals who have lost everything. GoFundMe has created an online hub of verified fundraising pages related to the wildfires. There’s also GoFundMe’s Wildfire Relief Fund, which is providing emergency relief grants of $1,000 each to individuals who have lost homes and loved ones.

Finally, members of Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan can donate miles to the American Red Cross through Jan. 17. American Airlines is offering AAdvantage members 10 miles for every dollar donated to the American Red Cross through Jan. 22 (with a minimum donation of $25). And United is accepting donations of miles and money for various organizations through Jan. 31.
