Santorini, Dubrovnik and Kotor balance ancient history with spectacular coastal scenery

Why We Love This Deal

Most Greece holidays lead with the islands. This one goes deeper. Before the Aegean takes over, you travel through the places that made Greece legendary: Olympia, Delphi and Meteora. You’ll see where the Olympic Games began. You’ll visit the oracle site ancient Greeks once crossed mountains to reach. You’ll stand at monasteries built high above the rocks, where the journey shifts from myth to awe. Nafplio, Corinth, Epidaurus and Mycenae add kingdoms, theatres, fortresses and old-world beauty. The overland section gives you the Greece many cruise passengers never reach. Then Enchanted Princess turns that story seaward. The 10-night cruise carries you from Athens to Santorini, Crete, Sicily, Malta and the Adriatic. Dubrovnik, Split and overnight Kotor bring walled cities, mountain-backed bays and slower coastal drama. Venice gives the holiday the ending it deserves. Late August keeps the Mediterranean warm and bright, with long evenings and lively waterfronts. Return flights from Sydney, 4-star stays, guided touring, breakfasts, five lunches and cruise travel are bundled, with transfers included where specified. This 21-night holiday is not Greece as a quick island postcard. It is Greece with context first, then beauty, ease and sea light after.

Itinerary highlights

In Athens, a two-night stay introduces the foundations of ancient Greece before the journey heads into the Peloponnese, with the Corinth Canal, Ancient Corinth and a spectacular rail journey through the Vouraikos Gorge revealing both the country’s history and natural beauty.

Through Nafplio, elegant Venetian architecture and a picturesque harbour create one of Greece’s most charming seaside towns, with time to visit Palamidi Castle or the island fortress of Bourtzi before exploring Epidaurus and Mycenae, home to the Lion Gate and the legendary Tomb of Agamemnon.

At Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, brings ancient history to life through the Temple of Zeus, original stadium and sacred ruins where athletes once competed more than 2,700 years ago.

In Delphi, mountain scenery frames the Sanctuary of Apollo, the ancient theatre, and the renowned oracle, while nearby Arachova offers a glimpse into traditional village life beneath the slopes of Mount Parnassus.

Across Meteora, monasteries perched atop towering rock pillars create one of Europe’s most extraordinary landscapes, with visits to Varlaam and St Stephen revealing centuries of religious history suspended between earth and sky.

Returning to Athens, there is time to absorb more of the capital before boarding Enchanted Princess for your Mediterranean voyage.

At Santorini, whitewashed villages cling to volcanic cliffs above the Aegean, with sweeping caldera views and blue-domed churches creating one of Greece’s most iconic scenes.

Through Chania in Crete, Venetian harbours, waterfront tavernas and narrow stone laneways reveal a blend of Greek, Ottoman and maritime heritage.

From Katakolon, there is an opportunity to revisit Olympia and its remarkable archaeological treasures from a different perspective along the Ionian coast.

In Messina, Sicily’s dramatic coastline, bustling piazzas and proximity to Mount Etna create a distinctly Italian atmosphere.

At Valletta, honey-coloured fortifications, grand palaces and centuries of maritime history are woven through one of Europe’s most compact capitals.

Through Dubrovnik, medieval walls encircle limestone streets and terracotta rooftops overlooking the sparkling Adriatic Sea.

In Kotor, steep mountains plunge into a sheltered bay where a fortified old town sits beneath some of the most dramatic scenery in the Balkans.

At Split, Roman history remains part of everyday life, with cafés, markets and homes built within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace.

Arriving in Trieste, elegant Austro-Hungarian architecture and grand waterfront boulevards mark your arrival in northern Italy.

A two-night stay in Venice provides time to wander beside canals, cross centuries-old bridges and discover hidden piazzas before your flight home.
