Two great journeys in one: a 13-night New Zealand cruise and the Indian Pacific from Sydney to Perth

Why We Love This Deal

A cruise shows you places. A train shows you what lies between them. Both let you slow down and enjoy the journey, but from very different perspectives. This 19-night rail-and-sail holiday brings together two Travelzoo favourites: cruising New Zealand and crossing Australia on the Indian Pacific. Spend 13 nights aboard Royal Princess, sailing from the Bay of Islands to Fiordland's towering cliffs and waterfalls.

Then the scenery changes completely. Aboard the Indian Pacific, spend three nights travelling from Sydney to Perth, watching the Blue Mountains give way to the vast Nullarbor. Step off the train for dinner beneath the outback stars. Discover Broken Hill's mining heritage and savour South Australia's celebrated food and wine. Back onboard, settle into all-inclusive Gold Service, where every meal and drink is taken care of. Two very different journeys, with plenty of time to appreciate both.

Starting at just $8499 per person, this pre-register release is exclusive to Imagine Cruising, and they are offering Travelzoo members exclusive early access to the Indian Pacific's 2028 departures, ahead of their public release. Plus, upgrade to a Balcony cruise cabin or above and enjoy Gold Premium Twin accommodation aboard this iconic train journey.

Itinerary highlights

Your journey begins with a night in Sydney, where the Harbour Bridge and Opera House set the scene. After your cruise, you’ll return for two more nights to explore the harbour, beaches and vibrant dining at your own pace.

Secluded coves and turquoise water welcome you to the Bay of Islands, one of New Zealand’s most beautiful maritime playgrounds. This is also where modern New Zealand began, with the historic Waitangi Treaty Grounds close by.

Volcanic cones rise above Auckland's glittering harbour, New Zealand’s largest city. Take in the views from the Sky Tower, or explore the waterfront and its lively bars and restaurants.

Green, winding waterways surround Picton, the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds. The famous Marlborough wine region, home to world-renowned Sauvignon Blanc, is close by.

From the port of Lyttelton, Christchurch is a short drive away. Discover a city reborn, with leafy botanic gardens and punting on the gentle Avon River.

Scottish heritage shapes Dunedin, reached from the port of Port Chalmers. Admire its grand Victorian architecture, or head out to the Otago Peninsula, home to albatross and penguins.

The highlight of the cruise is a day of scenic cruising through Fiordland National Park. Sheer cliffs and waterfalls rise straight from the water on every side, weather permitting.

Back on board the Indian Pacific, the train crosses into South Australia, stopping at Broken Hill and McLaren Vale along the way. Arriving in Adelaide, you’ll enjoy off-train experiences with expert guides.

The vast Nullarbor Plain stretches to the horizon as the train runs dead straight for 478 kilometres. It’s the longest straight stretch of railway in the world, and after dark the outback sky fills with stars.

Your journey ends in Perth, however if your journey finishes with a flight to Sydney, Adalaide, Melbourne or Brisbane you will enjoy a night in a 4-star hotel gives you time to explore Western Australia's sunny capital. Stroll Kings Park or wander along the Swan River.
