The Deal

Recommended in top culinary guides, Baumanns Brasserie is run by TV chef Mark Baumann and holds an AA Rosette for its "gutsy cooking" and "eclectic interior". For £25, two people can dine at this local gem, with a 2-course à la carte meal and wine, for a total of £25.

Worth up to £77, this gourmet experience offers choices from the English- and French-inspired menu. For example:

- Starters such as moules marinieres and hot smoked salmon with fennel and olive carpaccio crumpets
- Main courses include seared fillet of beef with peppercorn sauce and crispy onion butter, or red onion tart tatin with melted cheese and horseradish cream

You will also receive a glass of red or white house wine each with your meal.

Baumanns Brasserie is housed inside a 16th-century property and its décor has received rave reviews alongside its award-winning cuisine. The Michelin Guide 2012 calls it "characterful" and notes its walls "packed with pictures and prints".

Based in the market town of Coggeshall, the Essex restaurant is a 25-minute drive from Colchester and 20 minutes from Chelmsford.
