This country house hotel is set in five acres of woodland on a hillside just outside St Austell. A "haven of peace and quiet," according to the AA, it's an ideal base for exploring Cornwall's fishing villages, coastal paths and gardens, and is just a mile from the Eden Project.

Accommodation is in a Double/Twin room, all of which are named after female authors and literary heroines. Upgrade to a larger Double/Twin room (Louisa, Emily or Elizabeth) for an extra £15 per night, a Manor Suite (Daphne, Scarlett or Rebecca) for an extra £40, or a Garden Suite (Charlotte), for an extra £40 per night (payable to hotel on booking).
