More Room Types

Four Seasons Hotel Sydney is a plush 5-star hotel with a popular restaurant, the city's largest heated outdoor pool and a respected concierge team. It occupies a prime position in Circular Quay, with excellent views of the harbour, Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Sydney Opera House and the neighbouring Botanical Gardens are 15 minutes' walk from the hotel, and the nearby Art Gallery of New South Wales is also worth a visit for Australian paintings and European Old Masters. It's a 10-minute amble to The Rocks, a historic district that is packed with artisan coffee shops, traditional pubs and high-end restaurants. At the weekend, The Rocks Market takes over the northern stretches of George and Playfair streets, with stalls selling jewellery, snacks and handicrafts. Ferries to Manly, Taronga Zoo, Cockatoo Island and Darling Harbour depart from the quay, and Circular Quay train station is just around the corner, offering transfers to the business district in 15 minutes.

The hotel's spa is a luxurious hideaway, with six treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room and gym, complemented by that large triangular heated pool outdoors. There's also a poolside restaurant where you can grab a salad, sandwich or burger. Pei Modern in the lobby is a "marvel" (The Daily Telegraph Sydney), with big flavours and technically accomplished bistro cooking. Dishes include slow-cooked lamb shoulder to share and executive chef Mark Best's signature duck-egg sauternes custard with crostoli. There's a reasonably priced lunch menu during the week. The hotel bar has paired up with Rocks Brewery for craft ales and has a good choice of international whiskies and organic wines. Global bar snacks include chicken satay, charcuterie, empanadas and shucked oysters.

Rooms are glamorous hideaways, decorated in warm, muted tones, with marble bathrooms and free Wi-Fi. Request a room on the upper floors for the best of the views and "make sure you’re in situ at sunset", recommends Condé Nast Traveller. Premier rooms on the corners offer more space, or upgrade to the Club floor for a free extras, like daily breakfast and all-day drinks. Kids are looked after with pint-sized bathrobes, a children's room-service menu and welcome milk and cookies.

"On top of elegance and originality on the plate, there’s also a real focus on basic comfort here" -- Time Out Sydney
