Trigony House Hotel in Dumfries and Galloway is a "superb home away from home", where bedrooms are a "quiet haven", say the judges of The Scottish Hotel Awards. It has a host of awards, including the Southwest Regional Winner in the Country House Hotel of the Year category at the Scottish Hotel Awards 2015.
The hotel is just outside the village of Thornhill in the Nith Valley in Southwest Scotland. Drumlanrig Castle, where you can go on walks, go cycling and off-road mountain biking, is a short drive away. Further afield is the Solway Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and home to the 7-mile walk from Kippford to Sandyhills, which was listed in the five top coastal walks by The Daily Telegraph.
Trigony House Hotel is a family-run Edwardian shooting lodge. Inside there's a cosy sitting room with a wood-burning stove, a film library, a hallway with Japanese oak panelling, a bar and a dining room with an open fireplace. Outside is a lush garden with views of Nithsdale and the Southern Uplands.
The food is made from locally sourced ingredients and is cooked by the hotel owner. The hotel was awarded a Fabulous Flavours Award at the Scottish Hotel Awards 2013 and was also the winner of the Breakfast of the Year 2015 in the Southwest region.
Classic rooms have a garden or woodland view and have standard double or twin beds. Superior rooms are slightly larger with super king-sized or twin beds and a small seating area. Some rooms are dog-friendly and dogs are welcome in all public areas.
The hotel offers activities at an additional cost, such as horse riding, falconry, bike hire, fly fishing, shooting and vintage car hire.
