More Reasons to Go

  • Originally built in 1926 as a summer home for the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia, the inn underwent an elegant renovation and restoration
  • Mid-century, the inn became known as "The Latch," as every door within it needed to be opened with a latch and an iron key
  • Rooms have historic decor with the comforts of a modern hotel, like free Wi-Fi
  • Nearby, there are many kayak launch points, so you can easily explore the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve by sea
  • If water exploration doesn't suit you, drive 10 minutes to Swartz Bay's car ferry, which can take you to Mayne, Saturna and Pender Islands— all part of the national park

There was a mouse in the room on both nights. We informed a staff member on the first night. We got the mouse out, but nothing was mentioned about it. The mouse was there again on the second night. There were mouse droppings in the room which we noted when we left. We get it's an old building, near water, but acknowledgement of the issue would have been appreciated. It was an expensive stay and to have this kind of issue was disappointing. The room felt tired, dated, and in need of some TLC. Maybe the owners are deliberately letting it go, who knows.

Real "bed and Breakfast" is rare today. It was a real trat to enjoy a full breakfast each day of our stay. Also, the staff added details like fresh cookies each night and a coffee maker in the lounge.

That it is in Sidney and the owners are hardworking
Other Comments
Very old, misleading reservation as thought our room would have a balcony and ocean view, chipped paint, mismatched decor

As expected, the "bottle of wine" was a very small bottle of wine 187ml, but disappointing none the less.

Definitely a great find & deal through Travel Zoo. The Inn even offered us the same rate to stay an extra night which was a bonus because when the deal was offered again the hotel was full so I didn't partake. They must have had a cancellation & so to get the same rate was a very nice surprise & made our stay all the more enjoyable. One suggestion: provide some sort of hand or body lotion in the room. Food was excellent!

I booked what was advertised as a suite (even the door to the room was labelled “Lady Byng Suite”) but was really just a small bedroom with peeling wallpaper and a tired old bathroom.

When we arrived to check in the front door was locked and there was no one visible inside. After leaving the porch to look around for another entrance, we saw a sign down below which showed an arrow to another door for Reception. The nexy day while sitting in the car, I saw another couple do the same thing: go to the locked front door and not know where to go next to check in. Very poor signage.

Beautiful fireplace room if it was on The place smelled old. They should’ve had some kind of fragrance. Never got to try the breakfast because I had to be up early and I need my sleep.
Other Comments
If we had to pay full price of $400 a room or even 350 not worth it at all there wasn’t a bathtub. There wasn’t central heating in the rooms we were provided with the plug-in vent heater didn’t find a lot of quality. Room was freezing when arrived. No ice machine the ice tasted funny. They didn’t keep the fireplace on in the central room. Bed was not comfortable not the quality expected.
