Overview
It’s not hard to imagine having been swept away to an island in the South Pacific when vacationing at the Polynesian-themed Catamaran Resort Hotel. This charming hideaway offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean from its perch along the shores of Mission Bay. The property is lush with exotic flowers, koi ponds and waterfalls. Tiki torches light walkways to the resort’s private beach with lounge chairs and snack service. The pool is shaded by palm trees and centered between a large Jacuzzi tub and a bar and grill.
For additional fun in the sun, guests can paddleboard, wakeboard, take a sailboat or pontoon ride or rent a bike to explore the nearby wildlife preserve. Tandem bikes, children’s seats and kid trailers are available for families looking to cruise around town. Guests are invited to take part in a yoga class on the lawn, borrow a surf board and to curl up on a beach blanket with loved ones to watch a movie under the stars on a 16-foot-wide screen. Adults are welcome to pamper themselves with treatments inspired by Asian healing traditions at the hotel’s spa, and there is also a fitness center with water views.
Rooms are filled with daylight thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows and an interior seaside color scheme to match the resort’s surroundings. All accommodations include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions, minifridges and a balcony or patio. Studios have kitchens and suites also feature a living area with pullout sofas -- well worth the upgrade for families and groups.
The hotel’s Oceana Coastal Kitchen is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the option of dining on the patio facing the bay. Guests can gather around the fire pits to sample local seafood specialties with views of the sailboats and boardwalk. The hotel is 3 miles from SeaWorld and 12 miles from the San Diego Zoo.
