Sitting on the Ottawa River, this hotel is the world's largest log structure with an impressive hexagonal rotunda and a 19-metre stone fireplace as its centrepiece.

Founded in 1930, this rustic hotel is still beaming with charm. From the sprawling grounds to the chalet-inspired decor of comfortable rooms, Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello is memorable inside and out.

On-site dining options vary; fine dining at Aux Chantignoles for breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. There's also the Bistro La Seigneurie, which is open daily from 5:30-11 p.m., and serves up bistro fare and cocktails.

The hotel's spa has registered massage therapists and offers treatments such as maple sugar body scrubs and green blanket body wraps. Guests can also relax around the fireplace in the Salon La Clairiere. Adjacent, the 23-metre indoor heated pool is encompassed by red cedar logs and floor-to-ceiling windows.

The resort has a host of activities included in the resort fee, ranging from stand-up paddle boarding and pedal boating in the warmer months to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter. There's also mini golf and tons of family-friendly fun, like on-site movie nights on weekends.

We enjoyed walking to and exploring the town. The walking paths around the grounds are beautiful. The colours of the leaves were absolutely stunning. It was a glorious day. We also loved the pool, hot tub and saunas- although the one in the woman’s change room was difficult to operate. I had to ask for assistance. We had a fantastic meal at the steakhouse-excellent food and stellar service. We loved sitting in the lobby and just drinking in the ambience of the place. The history and the majesty of scale of the building, the fireplaces in the center. It’s something you can’t experience anywhere else.

I realize that This is an old building, so mod/cons shouldn’t be expected to compare to new hotels. But, we found the heat in our room a bit oppressive. We kept a window open. The plumbing didn’t work quite as well either, eg the toilet flushing. Also, the mini fridge wasn’t plugged in and didn’t work that well once it was plugged in. But theses minor details aside, we really enjoyed our stay.

The room was so dry that I awoke with a bad headache and incredible sinus pain - suppose to be a wonderful anniversary gift for my partner :((

Wonderful! Hotel, even though it is renovated is old. Sound proofing not great. Floors above badly creak and person on phone next room felt like she was right beside us. Food good but not exceptional. Still setting beautiful and staff terrific, so would go back.

The desk clerk welcomed us and offered an upgraded room and early check in. The food at the main restaurant was phenomenal. The weather sucked but the indoor pool, hot tub and sauna made up for it.

All was great except for a continuous banging all night in our room. They offered us complimentary breakfast because of this noise. That was nice, but I am not sure it compensates for losing a night’s sleep when you are looking forward to a relaxing time away.
