Canada’s Getting a New Restaurant Festival – We Asked a 'Top Chef Canada' Judge for Her Top Picks
Travelzoo is on a mission to inspire its members to "dine outside their comfort zone" in 2019. We've partnered with "Top Chef Canada" judge Mijune Pak -- and now, the Travelzoo Global Food Correspondent is hosting Travelzoo Restaurant Month, a virtual food festival throughout April featuring special prix fixe menu deals at Canada’s top restaurants. Here, Canada’s most recognized food personality (FollowMeFoodie.com) shares her favourite dining spots.
One of my missions as Travelzoo Global Food Correspondent is to inspire Canadians to break out of their restaurant rut. I’ve travelled coast to coast to try new dishes and collaborated with Travelzoo to put together this festival of some of my favourite restaurants in Canada. Choosing my top few from all the fantastic participants in Travelzoo Restaurant Month wasn't easy, but based on meals I've enjoyed recently, here's my list.
Kiin (above) -- I love the presentation and the fact that it offers Thai dishes that are less known to the public. The vibe is great and the food is flavourful and special.
Canis -- I love their passion. They are taking Canadian cuisine to new levels and I love that you get to try their signature duck with the Travelzoo prix fixe.
Apres Wine Bar -- New baby sister to Canis. They serve great natural wines and simple solid food to go along with it in a minimalistic space.
Sara Restaurant -- Excellent salads as always, and those latkes, kimchi fries, and Reuben are flavour bombs.
Foreign Concept (above) -- The benchmark for modern Vietnamese cuisine in Calgary.
Teatro -- This is such a special spot with modern and classic dishes. Try it now -- don't save it for a special occasion.
Anju Restaurant -- A playful twist on traditional Korean food from one of Calgary's most well-liked chefs
Torafuku -- Funky, creative and cool! They don't take their food or themselves too seriously, so go have fun.
Wildebeest (above) -- They have a really cool room with meat-centric dishes.
