What You Need to Know Before Visiting Atlantis
Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas is a perennial favorite of Travelzoo members, plus our Deal Experts. Nearly a dozen of us have been over the past few years. While other offices chat about TV shows over the water cooler, we tend to swap travel tips.
Here’s a collection of our favorite ways to make the most of an Atlantis stay:
Get a lay of the land
Studying a map beforehand can really help, but nothing’s better than getting a sense of just how expansive the property is than walking it. Another option? Lace up the running shoes. Atlantis has plotted running routes for guests looking to squeeze in a workout, but we recommend hitting the ground running to get oriented. These running paths are for short, medium or long distances.
Paradise Beach, worthy of its name
Paradise Beach, with its padded and shaded chairs, peaceful atmosphere and clear blue waters, is collectively Travelzoo Deal Experts’ favorite spot among many strong contenders.
Early risers should pull up a chair for a sunrise, or cap off a great day with a sunset here.
Do your homework
There’s a detailed daily schedule outlining the day’s events and activities for all guests, but the offerings really focus on family fun. Grab a schedule each morning and review it over breakfast to make a road map for the day.
No need for the wallet
There are free things to do at Atlantis: catch a movie at the theater, admire marine life at the resort’s lagoons and exhibits and waterslides at Aquaventure.
Make the trip pay for itself
Several times a week, lessons are given on site on the dozens of game tables and hundreds of slot machines found in the casino.
Book the Snorkel the Ruins program to swim alongside Atlantis’ marine life. The resort is home to more than 50,000 marine life, including sharks, sting rays and eels.
Once you’ve booked your room, the next best move to start making dinner reservations! Atlantis really stands out for its diverse restaurant offerings. Call ahead to make dinner reservations to make sure you don’t miss out at places like Todd English’s Olives and Café Martinique from Jean-Georges Restaurants. Large parties can reserve Nobu’s Sake Cellar.
For low-cost, quick meals, check out the restaurants near the marina. Each night the deli and pizza place are popular because of their affordable offerings. Several restaurants, like Carmine’s or the Virgil’s BBQ, offer family-style meals, helping to keep a check lower. For lunch, maximize your pool time and look for combo options at the closest snack shop.
Act like a kid
After a hot morning spent reading and resting on the beach, there’s nothing more refreshing than an exhilarating trip down one of Aquaventure’s rollercoaster waterslides.
Don’t waste a minute
On a first-come, first-serve basis, hospitality suites are made available to guests. If you still have an afternoon free after checking out of your hotel room, hit the beach or the water park and come back to a suite to rinse off and change before heading to the airport or your next destination.
