The Deal

Nestled on 175 acres in the Columbia River Gorge, Skamania Lodge -- which Fodor’s says “impresses with its multitude of windows that take in the surrounding forests” -- is offering an exclusively negotiated getaway for two guests for $149 per night (reg. $279). Add $30 to stay on a Friday or Saturday night.

In the spring months, hike any of three trails looping around the grounds, or take a guided tour with the U.S. Forest Service on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. For a laid-back afternoon, enjoy a scenic 45-minute drive to Multnomah Falls, the fifth tallest waterfall in the United States.

After a day spent biking (rentals are free) or on the golf course, sink into the grotto hot tub then spend an evening by the outdoor fire pits roasting s’mores and sipping Champagne. 

Activities abound during the winter months as well, including cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. Afterward, cozy up next to the 85-foot-tall stone fireplace in the lobby.
