Legend has it that the heiress to the Winchester Rifle fortune constructed the labyrinth-like house to ward off evil spirits. She believed as long as construction continued she'd avoid being cursed. What resulted was an expansive mansion with stares that go nowhere, doorways that open to nothing and other odd architectural touches.
If you're looking to shop, head to Santana Row, one of the most popular shopping districts in the city. The district is home to a number of luxury retailers, including Burberry, Gucci and Diesel. There are also more than two-dozen restaurants to choose from. Or venture to Westfield Valley Fair, one of the largest shopping malls in Northern California. The upscale complex features nearly 250 stores, a food court and nine restaurants.
At night, head to downtown San Jose to enjoy the city's nightlife scene. Here, you'll find a large selection of swank lounges, clubs and bars. Many cater to a younger crowd with live DJ music and crowded dance floors. For a more relaxing evening, visit a chill lounge for a glass of wine and some live jazz.
