Why Fly to Vail?

Located about 100 miles west of Denver, Vail is one of the most popular ski destinations in the country. Every year, thousands of outdoor enthusiasts patron this winter wonderland for its excellent slopes and breathtaking, mountainous landscape. The region's biggest draw is Vail Mountain. With more than 5,000 acres of skiable terrain and nearly 200 marked trails. Meanwhile, the local scenery is itself an attraction. The views of the peaks are utterly beautiful, drawing many comparisons to the Alps. After a day of skiing, travelers can unwind at one of the area's luxurious resorts. Local spas offer a slew of massage treatments, while restaurants serve up a variety of gourmet fare. Those looking for a shopping excursion will find plenty of stores in the quaint retail district of Lionshead. And you can easily find deals on Vail hotels throughout the region. During the summer months, Vail becomes an adventure traveler's paradise. Visitors can mountain bike through the wilderness or raft down the Eagle River. Golf is also a big draw, with Vail boasting about a dozen courses. You can compare flight deals to Vail on Travelzoo's SuperSearch.

Which Airlines Fly to Vail?

The Eagle County Airport (EGE) serves the Vail and Beaver Creek region. The small facility caters mainly to seasonal travelers. You can search for airfare from Chicago to Vail on American Airlines and United, which also provides service out of Denver. East Coast vacationers can buy low-priced fare from New York and Newark on American Airlines and Continental, while Delta provides flights from Atlanta. You can also find airfare discounts from Dallas, Los Angeles and Miami.

Vail Flight Tips

Travelers can also reach Vail via the Denver International Airport (DEN). Although the airport is about 120 miles east of the resort town, chartered buses provide transport to and from the city. You can also rent a car, though the mountainous and snowy landscape can prove difficult for inexperienced drivers. Because the Denver International Airport is a hub for Frontier Airlines and United, finding cheap plane tickets is easy. Other airlines that serve Denver include AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, American Eagle, Continental, Delta, JetBlue Airways, Southwest and US Airways.

Quick Travel Guide to Vail

Vail offers a balance of outdoor activities and indoor amenities throughout the year. Those looking for a vacation that combines adventure and relaxation will certainly find it here.  However, the upscale resort town does have two distinct personalities: one reserved for the winter and one reserved for the summer.

The city's peak season is during the winter months, when vacationers from around the world come to take advantage of the abundant ski terrain. Travel west of Vail Pass where you'll find miles upon miles of resorts, each providing access to the nearby slopes. A number of Vail's districts, as well as nearby communities, cater to out-of-towners. Vail Village is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Vail, featuring mountain access, boutique hotels, rental facilities and shopping outlets. It's also home to the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum, which houses the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. Nearby Beaver Creek is also a popular, posh resort town that many Vale tourists frequent for additional dining, shopping and skiing options.

Although the slopes might not be active in Vail during the summer season, there are still plenty of outdoor activities to satiate travelers' sense for adventure. Mountain biking is popular along the back trails of the mountains. Travelers can ride the gondola to the top of Vail Mountain and spend the day riding their bikes back down while taking in the lush scenery. Bike rental facilities can be found in Lionshead, Avone and other resort areas. The region's Eagle River provides excellent rafting during the early summer. The nearby Colorado River and Arkansas River both provide additional rafting opportunities.

If skiing is Vale's biggest draw of the winter, then golf is probably the city's biggest draw in the summer. The city features a number of critically acclaimed courses. One of these is the Eagle Ranch Golf Course. Located in nearby Eagle, Colorado, the Arnold Palmer Signature Design course offers panoramic views of the Colorado Rockies on every hole. There is also a pro shop, a 30-station practice facility and a restaurant on-site.
