Start your trip to St. Louis by visiting the city's historic downtown. Here, you can get an inside view of the Gateway Arch by riding the monuments tram. This small elevator transports passengers to the top of the Arch. Step out onto the observation area to take in stunning views of the city and beyond. Underneath the Arch you'll find the Museum of Westward Expansion where you can learn all about the land explored by Lewis and Clark.
Next, head south to nearby Soulard, St. Louis' oldest neighborhood. Here, among the classic examples of St. Louis redbrick architecture, you'll find trendy restaurants and bars as well as the Soulard Farmers Market. The market, which is open throughout the year, feature fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, crafts, meats, cheeses and spices from dozens of local vendors. Beer lovers can take a free tour of the Anheuser-Busch facilities. See the company's historic Brew House, the packaging plant and the beechwood lagering cellar. One of the most popular parts of the tour is the Budweiser Clydesdale stable. Everyone of drinking age gets a free beer sample.
Families can get several days worth of fun out of Forest Park. This giant urban park is home to some of St. Louis' best kid-friendly attractions.
