Savannah International Airport (SAV) is about 10 miles from the Savannah's downtown, a trip not about 20 minutes by car. The airport's central location is convenient to Hilton Head, South Carolina’s Low Country and inland Georgia. Five airlines operate daily: American Eagle, Continental Airlines, Delta, United Express and US Airways. You can fly direct to Savannah from Atlanta, Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Cincinnati, Newark, New York and Washington, D.C. Additionally, Allegiant Air flies direct from Fort Lauderdale twice a week.

Some of the best hotels in Savannah are near the city's Historic District and River Street. Movie buffs might recognize Savannah's Chippewa Square from "Forrest Gump," as that's where Tom Hanks sat on a park bench and mused that "Life is like a box of chocolates." That bench is now in The Savannah History Museum located inside the Savannah’s Visitor Information Center. Not too far away in the Historic District, families can visit the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, where the founder of Girl Scouts of the USA lived.
