Quick Travel Guide to Milwaukee

With more than 75 statutes and iconic architecture, much of which is being converted into condos and commercial spaces, Milwaukee is a wonderful place to sightsee. Head downtown near the lake and see some of the city's most iconic buildings, including City Hall and the Cathedral of St. John. Nearby, you'll find the two-mile long Milwaukee Riverwalk. Besides serving as home to some of the city's best restaurants and bars, the riverfront also hosts free live music events throughout the summer.

Head across the river to Kilbourntown, Milwaukee's entertainment hub. Here you'll find the 4,100-seat Milwaukee Theatre; the Bradley Center, home to the Milwaukee Bucks basketball team; and the Frontier Airlines Center, the city's main convention center. Shoppers can explore Grand Avenue Mall, which houses a number of specialty stores and restaurants. During the winter, local businesses dress up the mall's north-side windows with elaborate holiday-themed decor.

Milwaukee also has a world-renowned park system, designed in part by the legendary Frederick Law Olmstead, the architect behind New York's Central Park. On a warm summer day, travel east to Bradford Beach where you can enjoy picturesque views of Lake Michigan while working on your tan. Travel just north of the sand to Lake Park. Besides the lush local vegetation, this 138-acre park claims several historical sites, including the North Point Lighthouse.

If you want to experience one of Milwaukee's most vibrant neighborhoods, head to the Historic Third Ward. Shop at the Milwaukee Public Market, an indoor market that sells local produce, meats, cheeses, fish, candies and flowers. The neighborhood is also home to the city's best boutiques, independent art galleries and theatre companies.
