Space-age artifacts like Apollo 17’s command module and the cleverly-designed daily necessities carried into orbit by astronauts are on display, and interactive exhibits include lunar-landing simulators and chambers that replicate microgravity environments. Several tours allow you to see real NASA facilities like the Mission Control Center and astronaut training rooms.
Houston is also an excellent place to see stunning museums like the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, which boasts more than 40,000 works spanning several centuries and dozens of nations. There’s also Bayou Bend, a stately 1920s mansion filled with priceless antiques and surrounded by expertly manicured gardens. And for a more lighthearted and carefree experience, see the exhibits at the folk art-inspired Orange Show, a whimsical and circus-like park built to honor its namesake fruit.
