Which Airlines Fly to Houston?

Houston’s busiest airport is George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), the primary hub of Continental Airlines. Roughly 50 cities in all regions of the U.S. have nonstop flights to George Bush Intercontinental via Continental, and other airlines with direct flights include Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, United and US Airways.

Houston Flight Tips

William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), Houston’s main air gateway prior to the construction of George Bush Intercontinental, still sees steady domestic flight traffic. Most flights into Houston-Hobby are via discount carrier Southwest Airlines, which uses the airport as a focus city. More than 30 cities, mostly in the Midwest and Western regions, are directly connected through Southwest. AirTran, Delta, Frontier and JetBlue are among the other airlines that serve Houston-Hobby.

Quick Travel Guide to Houston

There’s no shortage of things to do while in Houston, but you don’t need to be entirely agenda-driven to have a great time in The Bayou City. Houston has the distinction of being the largest U.S. city with no zoning restrictions, which means many of its streets and neighborhoods are as diverse as its populace. Developers have taken this free reign and run with it, and the result is a city filled with unexpected surprises like elegant theaters among picket fence homes and hip nightclubs next to historic landmarks. The hundreds of hotels in Houston are similarly spread out, so you should have no trouble finding a room in a particular neighborhood.

There are a few must-sees that you should schedule into your trip, however. Space Center Houston tops most visitors’ lists, and is widely regarded as the best attraction in the world for space exploration enthusiasts. Space-age artifacts like Apollo 17’s command module and the cleverly-designed daily necessities carried into orbit by astronauts are on display, and interactive exhibits include lunar-landing simulators and chambers that replicate microgravity environments. Several tours allow you to see real NASA facilities like the Mission Control Center and astronaut training rooms.
Houston is also an excellent place to see stunning museums like the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, which boasts more than 40,000 works spanning several centuries and dozens of nations. There’s also Bayou Bend, a stately 1920s mansion filled with priceless antiques and surrounded by expertly manicured gardens. And for a more lighthearted and carefree experience, see the exhibits at the folk art-inspired Orange Show, a whimsical and circus-like park built to honor its namesake fruit.
