The Guardian says the pretty town of Helmsley is "utterly delicious". It has a Norman castle, secret gardens, and cobbled streets lined with 18th-century cottages. You can explore the town, with its bijou boutiques, cosy tea rooms, and ale-filled pubs.
Alternatively, branch out to visit the romantic ruins, stately homes, and magical gardens nearby. Helmsley is home to its own walled garden and Medieval stone castle. History buffs should take a day trip to the 11th-century Rievaulx Abbey, or historic Duncombe Park. Both are around a 5-minute drive away.
Walkers are in for a treat too. The property is within the North York Moors National Park and close to the Cleveland Way. For some sea air, you're also an hour from the traditional seaside resorts of Scarborough and Filey.
After a day exploring, hunker down in the cosy bar or the in-house coffee shop. Enjoy a hearty home-cooked meal of Yorkshire produce in front of the log fire. Then stroll upstairs to a cosy, contemporary bedroom. Wi-Fi and parking are free.
