Why We Love It

  • You will save 50% on the regular cost of this experience
  • Diesel trains depart from Tunbridge Wells West station -- an 1886-built engine shed that is one of few still performing its original purpose, and has locomotives on display
  • The timetable also includes a steam train option**
  • You could combine your train ride with a trip to the Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells, which has a variety of shops, cafés, galleries and bars, plus its own spring -- it's less than five minutes' walk away

The regular value stated above is based on the maximum combined cost of the items included in this experience at the time of publication (14 March, 2019). Subject to availability. Vouchers are limited and may therefore sell out at any time. Well-behaved dogs are free to travel on the trains, providing they are kept on a lead -- they are not allowed on the seats. Dogs -- other than assistance dogs -- are not permitted in buffet coaches. Purple timetable will normally be operated by a 1960's heritage diesel unit, Class 73/1 with 3CIG in push/pull mode, or in the event of a multiple unit/73140 being unavailable a heritage diesel locomotive with carriages will be used. Green timetable is normally hauled by steam or heritage 1960s diesel locomotives. In the event of the non-availability of a steam locomotive a heritage diesel may be used. *The following departure times are available for travel: 12pm and 1:40pm only from Tunbridge Wells West Station. Spa valley is an excellent small railway line run by volunteers, a real slice of nostalgia. They run lots of special services too.

Very enjoyable family outing with 8 adults and 4 children .
Other Comments
Staff were excellent and happy with 4 excited children. They were allowed to go in the cabs of steam and diesel trains. Journey was not too long so they did not get bored.

W purchased tickets for a group of 4 adult. We left the station on Thursday 11th July on the 12pm train, but we only got to 1 stop, where we were asked to get off as the journey could not continue, as they were doing works on the track. We waited an hour on the platform at Groombridge before the train returned us back to the 1st stop. Very disappointing experience!
