We arrived just before 10 and as we sat down to complete our forms we were told that our treatments were booked at 10 and 2 o clock respectively. When I booked I specifically asked that the treatments were done at the same time - we do not see each other very often and have a lot to catch up on so to lose 2 hours out of the day wasn’t an option. I explained this when I called to book and was told this would be fine. Although the host said she would check she came back a few minutes later and said that there was no flexibility and I had to go for my treatment immediately as we were eating into my treatment time. I was herded into a treatment room, still carrying my bag and coat and was told to change there; my friend was abandoned in the lounge. Although the host went back for her later, I didn’t know that she was being looked after. The therapist , Elle, thought I was booked in for a scrub and back massage and seemed put out when I explained we were both booked in for the back, neck and shoulder with express facial. The treatment was fine although the pressure was very firm, not medium and I was not relaxed because of the rush etc. After my treatment, I was asked to put my dressing gown on - I had my clothes to carry as well as my bag and when I asked about slippers I was told that I had to buy flip-flops from reception. This was back by the entrance. I had to walk back there in my trainers and dressing gown, carrying my bag and clothes, then pick up my flip flops and towel and find my way to the changing rooms. I went to reception and asked for a second towel for my hair after I swam and the first one was dirty, with mascara and a dirty footprint. I was given another but the host didn’t seem at all surprised and there was no apology. My friend went for her treatment at 2. She was told she was having a scrub and back massage (by the same therapist) and, because she didn’t make the booking, was surprised but didn’t challenge this. After tea we went to the relaxation room - the heating had clearly been turned off, there was no hot water in the urn in the Amber Room and there was no one on reception to ask to refill it. Having been to Rookery Hall before and had a brilliant day, today (which was a belated 50th celebration) was a disappointment from the moment we arrived. We have complained and the manager has responded and offered a chance to go back

They didn’t know that the afternoon tea was included then I had to ask for the 4 day passes which were part of the deal. Also expected the afternoon tea in a hotel instead of a cafe . The afternoon tea wasn’t exactly special either . The masseuse talked all the way through my massage . Not exactly relaxing to be honest.
