"It was delightful. The Wynyard Hall is majestic and so beautiful, one has to visit to believe it. I wish we could have stayed longer to 'explore' more of the building. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. (We also liked the cutlery which was nicer than many top class hotels - my hobby is 'Afternoon Tea in Posh Places' and I have visited many both in London (8) and elsewhere in England. I would suggest two points that would improve it - a second plate for when I would need to cut up a scone or cake (not nice to use the same plate as one that has had, say, an egg and cress sandwich on it. Also, because I'm rather old, I came to pour out the tea and the teapot was too heavy and I spilt a lot of hot water onto the table. It would be rather helpful if the waiter would pour the tea or coffee."

Why We Love It

  • Wynyard Hall has the "real 'wow' factor", according to The AA, which praises the "impressive" restaurant for its "accomplished cooking" and "lavish" setting
  • "The staff were attentive, the food was brilliant and it was the perfect escapism", says Teesside Live
  • The estate, which was completed in 1846, was built for the Third Marquess of Londonderry -- The Daily Telegraph calls it "Georgian-grand par excellence"

The only criticism we had was that we were having our afternoon tea at 3pm and a couple were sitting at a nearby table eating fish and chips and the smell if them spoilt some of the enjoyment of eating our afternoon tea. I would, finally, add that I got part way through my review but something went wrong with my lap top so you didn't get a full review - please ignore the previous one sent very recently and accept this as my full review. Thank you, and please continue to send me your Special Offers. I love them. xx

Very pleasant day overall, walled garden interesting as always then followed by a delightful afternoon tea. Friends from USA were totally taken aback by the magnificence of the hall. Tea was served in the library which was wonderful and atmospheric. I would return without hesitation but next time I would opt for the traditional tea and not the gentleman’s option which was slightly disappointing.
