Lovely afternoon tea and lovely staff and service

Service was almost nonexistent, the scones were so hard and dry you could hardly cut them. We had to look around the hotel to find someone to ask for more tea etc.

Relaxed atmosphere where we had our afternoon tea. Lovely surrounding gardens. The interior was well maintained but lacked the wow factor. Some of the public rooms were a little bland. Grand but lacking love.

Disappointed on arrival with lack of signage and no one at reception to ask. We eventually found our destination and was greeted by our server, Cybil. She was very pleasant and chatty. Only a young person, lives in Chester but originally from York. She told us all she new about the Manor and was very interesting. Nothing was too much trouble for her. The offer I had purchased for the 4 of us was good value but I wouldn't pay the full price for it. I tasted the champagne and was glad I was driving and able to pass it on to another person.

There was a lack of atmosphere with no music in the room. We were unable to eat outside as there was another function on at the same time. The food was nice, the sandwiches were not as it described on the menu,

We were welcomed in a friendly way, shown where to go for the tea. The tea was tasty, plenty of sandwiches, although we weren't asked of any preferences. Scones were very flat, but were tasty! Nice little cakes. A top up of tea was offered and accepted.
Other Comments
The Manor looked a little tired, paintwork needed redoing, chairs dusted, blinds replaced, etc. But overall, a pleasant experience.

Interaction with the staff Would recommend & go back if food quality improved
Other Comments
For the money it was good value but the sandwiches & cakes lacked imagination . In fact the cakes appeared shop bought. We would have paid more for better quality
