Poor quality rooms. Had to change rooms due to plumbing issues and excessive heat. Very tired decor throughout and gardens need maintenance.

Everything was great apart from our room it was a warm sunny day and the heating was blaring. We were sweating! We did ask for it to be switched off but nothing happened. There was so much noise outside from a hen party booked by travellers. The noise carried on till 1.45am. The heat in the room didn't help. The toilet was partially or fully blocked. Each time you flushed, all the gunge, water, rose to the rim!

When we brought the issues to the receptionist, she moved us as soon as she could, very politely. But, I am appalled we were placed in there at all. Also, the main waiter who hosted us for breakfast and the afternoon tea was very conscientious and remembered that I drank oat milk. He was brilliant too.

I felt very misled by the experience we were promised to what we actually received. The photos on the website show refurbished rooms (and this is what the description denotes too) but, the first room we were placed in was drab, damaged and dated. For example, the sides of the bath were broken, the wallpaper was pealing, the lighting was just emergency lighting (very bright and painful - not relaxing at all) and the toilet took a very long time to fill. I am not sure anything had been changed for about 50 years. My husband and I felt very uncomfortable in there. In the morning, I was woken up at 6am by the washing machine in the building as well. I was not impressed. After complaining, we were moved for our second day, but we had to wait until later to move there. The staff member who gave us our new room key later in the day, did not know where our room was. We were given the wrong directions and we looked around for 30 minutes in the cold, in the dark, before realising the room was in the main hotel. The room was better and more what we had expected from the offset, but the carpet was still stained and the wallpaper was pealing in places. Not a great experience at all. The cooked breakfast was ok, but most of the items were deep fried. The afternoon tea was fine, but the chef did not realise that there is lactose in egg and gave me egg despite my lactose intolerance. I can have a small amount so I did eat some, but could not eat it all. I was also nervous about what had egg in so could not enjoy it as much as I might have done. Additionally to this, we ate dinner at the hotel restaurant on the first night, which we very much regretted. I was given overcooked pasta with a sauce that resembled and tasted similar to tinned tomato soup. I would be surprised if it was not a ready meal. For almost £14, this is disgusting. It tasted like bad baby food. Overall, we found the experience very disappointing and would not recommend to anybody.
