Why We Love It

  • The hotel had a major refurbishment in February, 2018, and reopened with a new lounge, bar, and reception area
  • The original manor house was listed in the Domesday Book, and many features, including its large stone fireplaces, were retained when the property was rebuilt in 1840
  • Stanton Manor is 10 minutes' drive from the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Bath and Bristol are both less than 30 minutes' drive from the hotel
  • The hotel has increased hygiene regulations, such as temperature checking on arrival, contactless check-in and checkout, and social distancing measures in place in the bar, restaurant, and lounge, to protect against the spread of Covid-19

Parking is free. Chippenham railway station is around 10 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Other than the fire alarm going off at 3 am and 3.45am and nothing really being communicated in the morning or any complimentary drink or something being offered. The experience was as quite a few people have mentioned on Tripadvisor: the hotel is a little tired in the bedroom decor, the staff just haven't got the X factor. I ordered a pot of tea at 4.30 and by 5.15 gave up waiting despite my husband asking at 4.45 if it was coming. The free cake was nice but it would have been nice to have a cuppa with it in the lounge area rather than go and make our own tea in the room. The food was fabulous and the breakfast bags generous, if a little the same on the second day. I would have thought that given they were doing food in the evening breakfast could have been done in morning on a timed entry time and limited menu - tea and toast and yogurt is quite easy to do.

The room we were allocated ( a superior) was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed and sofa. The food was enjoyable and the staff tried their best to make it all seem jolly.
Other Comments
The general state of repair and maintenance. The gardens had a lot of potential but were uncared for, full of weeds and debris. The main entrance door desperately needed painting. The windows in the main lounge were filthy with bird excrement . Main eating areas were dark, bare, cold and unwelcoming. The boxed breakfast was not in keeping with a hotel stay. Some of these things are due to Covid but the general unkempt feeling and noise from the M4 was dispiriting. we booked for 2 nights as part of the deal and left after one.

Very nice setting. Hotel clean but dated in areas. Food excellent - a great chef. Service was on the whole appalling! For this reason alone I won’t be returning

The sisters who booked us in and later served on at table were welcoming, polite and professional a real asset to the hotel as were all the staff we encountered. Room was spacious clean and bed was excellent. Dinner was lovely as was the breakfast. A great wee spot!

Bedroom and en-suite in sore need of redecoration. Carpet had stains. No protectors on mattress or pillows. Furniture worn. Breakfast was not generous, hot food was lukewarm.

It was a very enjoyable stay. Room was lovely and a really comfortable bed and very clean. The dinner was a taster menu. It was a little disappointing for taste and content, however that could have been a matter of taste.

Motorway noise was constantly in the background. Staff friendly & helpful but severely overworked during evening meal service - it really wasn’t fair on them. Just 2 youngsters waiting tables in a full dining room AND running the separate bar at the same time! All credit to them for remaining calm.
Other Comments
Easy distance from Bath & Bristol nicely nestled in the Cotswolds. Plenty of little picturesque towns close at hand to visit.
