We found a quiet corner where we were completely undisturbed and could enjoy a nice chat. And there was as much tea as we could drink. A nice relaxing afternoon.

the sandwich fillings were a bit unusual - dressed crab with a something extra I can't remember and piccalilli with the ham. I was with my daughter who likes plain food and she wasn't keen on either of those or the smoked salmon. She would have liked egg mayonnaise which has been included in just about every afternoon tea I have ever had and would have preferred just ham or any other meat without pickle and maybe a bit of salad.. As she isn't keen on fish she only ate a cream cheese and cucumber sandwich and some of the ham hock slices. I will eat pretty much anything but I'm also not a great piccalilli fan and I missed the egg mayonnaise too! But the scones were deliciously warm and fresh and absolutely huge so she filled up on those and the cakes were nice too. Summing up: more traditional fillings would have been preferable. It wasn't the best afternoon tea I have ever had but overall it was fine.

The quality of the afternoon tea was as good as it should have been. The sandwiches tasted kike they had been made much earlier (starting to dry out) and some of the ingredients were poor. The cakes were not good. The service was to quick, we had just received the wine when the tea arrived, so by the time we were ready for the tea is was going cold and stewed.

The pub itself is lovely, it had a nice cosy atmosphere.

On the day we had gone they seemed to be short staffed but this didn't stop them from providing a good service even though you could see they were stretched. There was a fellow diner while we were there who was extremely rude to another diner which I didn't like as she had made the whole room feel uncomfortable but this was an incident that wouldn't happen every day so it wouldn't put me off.

We went for afternoon tea at 3pm and were the only people in the restaurant which felt a little strange, but when we got our food we soon forgot.
