More Reasons to Go

  • "There's a romantic charm to the Wroxall Abbey Estate," says The Daily Telegraph, which also praises the "impressive patterned tile floors, stained glass, enormous sweeping staircases, carved wood panelling, and traditional fireplaces"
  • The 27 acres of serene grounds include formal gardens, the ruins of 12th-century Wroxall Priory, and the Grade I-listed Wren's Cathedral — originally the priory chapel
  • History buffs will be in their element: Kenilworth Castle and Warwick Castle are both less than 15 minutes' drive from the property, while Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House — both National Trust-owned stately homes — are 10 minutes' drive away
  • Stratford-upon-Avon is around 20 minutes' drive away. Like Stratford, the property has a Shakesperian heritage — the Bard's great aunt, Isabella, was prioress in the 1500s
  • You'll stay in an individually designed room in the Victorian Gothic mansion itself
  • Stays are available until April next year, with no supplements for weekend stays
  • You can book tickets for Warwick Castle, Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick, Shakespeare's Schoolroom in Stratford, and Stoneleigh Abbey directly from the hotel reception**
  • Stuck for Christmas gift ideas? Give a dining, spa, activity, theatre, or hotel experience, and create a memory
*Supplements may be payable on some dishes. **Tickets are subject to availability and are sold at standard prices.

The hotel's pool, spa, and wellness centre are all currently closed for refurbishment, and are due to reopen in March, 2022. Hotel obviously unfinished, however room cold, water luke warm in shower, no towel rail or shaver point. Public rooms very bare, no curtiains cushions or pictures. Breakfast mediocre but evening meak very good. Staff friendly and helpful, in fact they made up for hotel shortcomings. Certainly not a 4 Star experience at the moment.

The dinner was good. The breakfast pastries were good too, however the rest of the buffet breakfast quality was hit and miss depending on what time you came down for breakfast.

On arrival, we could not get a reply from reception for the access code to lower the barrier and allow entry. Eventually the driver from the car behind us got out, walked up and punched in the daily access code. We felt quite embarrassed. Next, when we got to our room, there were no toiletries in the bathroom, not even soap to wash hands. There were no instructions/numbers on the phone to contact anyone. My husband had to go down to reception to ask for toiletries!! A couple of hours later there was no water coming from the washbasin taps. Just spluttering and gurgling. Water pressure in the shower was poor especially from the overhead rain shower. This got even worse the next morning. Housekeeping ignored the Do Not Disturb tag on the door and still tried to enter.

Beautiful hotel in a stunning setting, our only grumble was the room was small & at the end of the corridor overlooking a back yard. I presume these rooms are for travelzoo clients
