The hotel was extremely pleasant with a good atmosphere. The log stove was particularly inviting during meal times. The food was very good and the service excellent. My companion wanted diary free food and staff had no problem in changing things to meet her needs. It had character but perhaps needed a little updating in the bedrooms.

The town has a station, only a ten minute walk from the hotel. I would recommend the trip up the coast to Pwllheli - 2 hrs. The views are stunning and only cost us £9 each with our rail card.

Staffing levels in the dinning rooms could be increased sometimes there was an unreasonable wait to order and for food to arrive.

The staff were excellent. The Wynnstay itself is wonderfully quirky, but the rooms could do with a bit of freshening up. The meals were very good! The town itself was a little disappointing and had seen better days. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay at The Wynnstay.

The hotel is really a step back in time, and really nice experience. However, the antique furniture in our bedroom was on one hand quaint, but more importantly, on the other hand not easy to clean and maintain cleanliness. Housekeeping was poor, our bed was not made and didn't replace bin liner. However, the towels and the bed sheets were immaculately clean. The hotel looks tired and was experiencing staff shortage leading some members of staff to be overworked.
Other Comments
The staff were excellent, but especial mention must be made to Mathew, Jess, Rhian and Renata who were exceptionally helpful. Jess multitask like a magician! A big thank you to those four.

I had a great stay at The Wynnstay. It was really busy due to the Travelzoo deal and the staff were under pressure, but coped very well. So friendly and the food was really enjoyable too. I appreciated the tea coffee and biscuits in the room. A great deal and I would go back again.

Don’t go expecting a 5* stay, because the hotel is not 5*, it’s quirky and old. However, my room was very clean and had everything I needed. The staff were accommodating and friendly and Machynlleth is a great base to explore the surrounding area. Thank you Wynnstay and Travelzoo.

Nice welcome. Room was a comfortable single bed, good pillows. I enjoyed the bath, lots of hot water. Food was really nice, in particular the vegetables were cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the table service was haphazard and annoyingly poor at dinner and breakfast. No structure or form with waiting staff. They need more training.

Stay was spoiled by weather constant rain and strong winds which somewhat ruined the break as it was too cold and bleak to go to one of the nearby seaside resorts.

The food was superb and the staff were brilliant. The downstairs dining area is lovely but sadly the 'olde-worlde' charm stops once you go upstairs.
Other Comments
The bedroom was very dated. Bathroom shower was not hot and just a trickle while the bathroom itself was really past its sell by date. More 1970s than 2013. The wall mounted bedside light could not be switched off from the bed. I had to get out of bed to switch it off at the floor-level wall plug the other side of the bedside cabinet.

Vastly understaffed in the evenings. Evening meals took a long time to arrive with vegetables forgotten on the first night. Hard to bar service. On the plus side the food was very nice when it arrived and check-in and check-out was very efficient. Car-park needs attention but there is an excellent public car-park very close by.

Cannot fault the hard working staff who were warm and helpful. We stayed in the original part with the sloping creaking floors, which was fine. However there was a lot of noise above us. The bed was a bit like a trampoline! Decor generally rather tired. The Travelzoo package was good value for money but without it we would have deemed the food a little expensive, especially the desserts, which were overpriced and not very exciting.

Staff wonderful. Single rooms in the ‘annex’ had walls like paper. I could hear my sister coughing in the next room. Next to her she heard both sides of a telephone conversation. Walls (chipped) painted dark green which didn’t help the appalling lighting.

Dated bathroom with shower shower . Good cleaning . Comfortable beds. Excellent breakfasts and delicious evening meals . Very good tea and coffee making facility with generous tea bags, milk, coffee and chocolate ect. Free parking within hotel .

Easy check in.. Staff Jes n Rhian were welcoming , helpful and efficient. Both obviously were on skates making sure Guests were served at the bar and table as quick as possible as it was a busy time during our visit. Chef was accommodating when I asked for starter of mussels to be served as a main course. Jes proved to be a multiTasker as he manned reception , the bar and also front of house taking food orders. As we were polite guests on holiday…. we tried to do our part to engage one of the servers from the kitchen … by thanking her n smiling lots… but we’re met with a stony silence and baffled look… perhaps our language in English was baffling to her?? Thank you to Staff for a lovely stay.

We paid an upgrade fee of £40 for a 'de luxe' ensuite double room. The room we had looked like a junk space where all the old furniture had been stored. Definitely not 'de luxe'. We voiced our misgivings but there was no chance that the fee would be revoked. There's 'quirky' and there's just not up to scratch. Generally, we couldn't decide whether the hotel was on the up (because of the chef) or disintegrating because of the general dinginess.

This was our 2nd visit using the travelzoo deal and if they do it again, we'll be there !. This is a lovely, traditional hotel with lots of quirk . The staff are the same as last year. Super friendly and helpful. The food is to die for. Quality ingredients, served hot and just the way you request it. We had room 15, which is a superior room. An extra £20 per night but worth it. Room 16 was also a superior room we had last time. Both rooms on the road side. Sash windows, not double glazed, some road noise, but didnt bother us. Hot water for both bath/shower. Staff were great. Had a joke with us and very helpful with other residents who needed their help. Quality tea/coffee in the room and these were replenshed whilst we were there. Parking at the vack of the hotel.Machynlleth is a small town which has seen better days . Some independent shops/cafés and there is a train station 10 min walk from hotel with links to Birmingham and Pwllheli. This is a deal not to be missed !!. See you next year . Great job to all
