Why We Love It

  • Head chef Gareth Johns — a member of the Master Chefs of Great Britain and the Slow Food Ambassador Chef for Wales —  focuses on using local seasonal ingredients
  • Machynlleth is a pretty rural market town known for its landmark clock tower, and has been described as a "centre of all things New Age" (Rough Guides); visit the Centre for Alternative Technology to learn about environmental preservation, less than 10 minutes' drive away
  • Glyndwr's Way National Trail, a cycling and hiking route through rolling hills and woodland, passes through the town
  • RSPB Ynys-hir is a 10-minute drive away; the marshes and wet grasslands of this 700-hectare nature reserve are a haven for lapwings, red kites, otters, and butterflies
Parking is free. Dogs are an extra £10 per night, payable direct to the hotel. Children aged five years old and over can stay for an extra £10 per night, on a B&B basis.

This should never be called a hotel, cried when we pulled up. We only went in as my sister had already arrived. So sad when a property lets down your company Travelzoo.. I expect a full refund did not stay the night had nothing to eat at the property. This was a celebration after cancer treatment catch up with my sister. We both left that evening could not stay at such a slum.

We had to pay for a more expensive room, as the normal rooms were all booked for one of the nights we wanted to stay - but this was not a problem
Other Comments
Staff excellent and friendly - nothing was too much trouble - service good and food excellent. It's an old hotel, so some wear and tear is to be expected, but nothing untoward.
