Why We Love This Deal

"With a Blue Flag beach and the beautiful Mawddach Estuary on its doorstep, the seaside resort of Barmouth has been a popular tourist destination since the coming of the railway in 1867," says Lonely Planet. Two-night stays at the Barmouth Sands Hotel this autumn and winter cost less than £50 per person, saving up to a hefty 64% on the usual price.

What's Included

  • Two nights' accommodation in a Sea View Room, with daily full Welsh breakfast, for two
  • A 2-course dinner each on the first night only (worth £24.95 per person)
  • It's £79 for an overnight stay with breakfast and dinner; 3-night stays with daily breakfast and dinner on the first night only are £139
  • Saturdays are an extra £15 per night (payable to the hotel direct)
  • Not available on 23-31 December; 1-2 January; 14 February

"As we were the only 2 people in the whole hotel on both nights, we feel it lacked in atmosphere. The downstairs had been renovated to a good standard, but the rooms were extremely dated, the sea view helped make up for that though."

Why We Love It

  • Barmouth is southern Snowdonia's most popular seaside resort, with stunning scenery, a Blue Flag beach and a plethora of outdoor pursuits on offer
  • You'll stay in a Sea View Room with views of Cardigan Bay and the picturesque harbour
  • The newly refurbished restaurant uses local, seaonal produce, and there's also a Gin & Fizz Bar serving 27 varieties of gin, gin cocktails and prosecco
  • Wildlife in the area includes sea eagles, oystercatchers, whales and dolphins
  • The Mawddach Trail walking and cycling route follows nine and a half miles of a disused railway track and "provides a delightful walk on a crisp winter day", according to CountryFile magazine
  • Coed y Brenin Forest Park, home to a number of mountain bike and hiking trails, is approximately 25 minutes' drive away. In the park you can visit Rhaeadr Mawddach, a small waterfall on the River Mawddach. Just below the falls are the remains of the Gwynfynydd Gold Mine
  • Stuck for gift ideas this Christmas? We have hundreds of dining, spa, activity, theatre and hotel deals to inspire you
Parking is free. Barmouth railway station is approximately five minutes' walk away.

The hotel is named as Arbour Hotel so was very confusing to find. Small evening menu but the meal we had was good as was the breakfast.

The food.
Other Comments
Accessibility was poor. As a wheelchair user I could only gain access to the hotel through a rear door that had a piece of boarding acting as a ramp which led into a corridor between the kitchen and the restaurant. This meant I could only get to the reception area via the kitchen or dining room.

We were in a room overlooking the water and the view was stunning, especially at sunset.

Maybe it is time to put the new name up outside so that first time visitors can find the hotel

Staff were very friendly. The restaurant had just been renovated to a high standard.

The bedrooms were tired and really need bringing into the 21st century Would go back when this has been done. Barmouth itself is lovely.

Location stunning and the town of Barmouth is gorgeous. Breakfast selection was good. Clearly the hotel is going through a refurbishment and the common areas are great - gives hope that eventually it will be a lovely place.
Other Comments
The rooms were dire- had no heating which meant we didn't use the bathroom (apart from the loo!) the 2 nights/days we were there. When reported on the first day we were told that they needed to constantly bleed the radiators however that did not solve the problem. Wall and ceiling paper peeling off - in desperate need of a refurbishment. Also the evening meal was not particularly child friendly and very limited

Evening meal on the first evening was very good. We had a lovely view over the seafront from our bedroom, which was a good size with a comfortable bed
Other Comments
Breakfast was quite early and was available for just an hour. This meant that it was busy in the dining room, food ran out and guests had to queue to help themselves to food. Having said that, Breakfast was good.
