Why We Love This Deal
Rye in East Sussex is home to Georgian villas, half-timbered Tudor houses, and cobbled lanes such as Mermaid Street. One of the UK's most photographed streets, it's also where you'll find the Mermaid Inn. Our members are full of praise for the 600-year-old inn's "charming" decor, "lovely staff", and "excellent" food. Overnight stays this autumn and winter are £99, saving up to 47% on the usual prices.

With its beamed ceilings, cosy fireplaces, wood panelling, and setting on "storybook lovely" (The Daily Telegraph) Mermaid Street, staying at The Mermaid Inn is like stepping back in time. Indeed, since it was first built in 1420, this famous former smugglers' inn has been visited by Elizabeth I and has hosted the Queen Mother.
There's a 2-AA-Rosette restaurant that serves "memorable dishes", according to The AA, as well as a bar and several lounges.
Camber Castle, a 16th-century fort built by Henry VIII, and Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, where you might spot tern and oystercatchers, are both five minutes' drive away.
Ypres Tower, which was built in the 13th century and has impressive views of the River Rother, is less than five minutes' walk from the hotel. It's one of the sites of the Rye Castle Museum—the other is a former bottle factory on East Street—and houses exhibits telling the town's story.
Camber Sands, a 3-mile-long sandy beach, is a 10-minute drive away. As well as being a great destination for a bracing walk, it's one of the UK's best spots for beachcombing (Daily Express) .

Wonderful hotel! Didn't experience any ghostly activity - probably a good thing! The staff were all lovely and attentive without being obtrusive. Fabulous central position. Parked the car and walked for our entire stay. Food was absolutely delicious - some of the best I have eaten.

Wonderful historical building and great staff. The open fireplace was heavenly and the breakfast was pretty good too. Btw, The hand cut chips at lunchtime were perfect.

An attractive hotel & location. Unfortunately, the reception manager not very welcoming on arrival, she was notably brusk & acted like she was doing us a favour when I handed her my Travelzoo voucher!
Other Comments
A notably brusk check in from the reception manager & not very welcoming which made my wife uncomfortable & didn’t set a good tone. The TV in our room was tiny, old & fixed on the wall at an angle, not what you would expect in 2023 & unable to attach a a Firestick. Breakfast included a burnt pancake base & fried egg base which you wouldn’t expect in a quality hotel.

Only downside the hotel main restaurant menu didn't charge from one day to the next even the special advertised in the bar was the same the next night, so we ate down at the ship Inn at bottom of the road . But all good

All staff were welcoming and friendly. Due to it's age, there are lots of steps about and our Porter made sure that we were aware of them. Extremely clean hotel. Excellent food and every drink you could possibly want.

Every member of staff we dealt with was friendly, helpful and professional. At the time Rye had a huge problem with no water supply to any property, such a shame and completely out of the control of the hotel. Our only disappointment, having passed countless sheep on our journey, was that there was no lamb on the dinner menu!

The rooms are full of Character but we miss having a shower. Sunday lunch was very good and staff very helpful especially when there was no water in the hotel on Monday night . We have stayed on three occasions now so probably would not stay again although we might.

Staff extremely friendly and helpful. First morning there my car wouldn't start for the first time ever. The hotel's maintenance manager, Mark French, was called and he couldn't do enough to help. Within 20 minutes from informing reception he was on site and had got the car working. We left the keys with him and he ensured it was OK. Excellent extra service. Than you.

Our third time at the Mermaid Inn didn't disappoint. The staff are always friendly and helpful making for an enjoyable stay. The hotel's central location is perfect for exploring Rye and was very quiet at night.

We had another enjoyable stay but were a little surprised to find a service charge added to the bar bill especially as we ordered at the bar. This was not our experience on our previous visits. That said, as always, the service was good and we wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

What a great place to visit! Loved the history of Inn and Rye. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much if we asked for assistance. Food was great. Only down side is; this isn't the place to go if you have mobility issues due to low ceilings, steep steps etc! However, for us we absolutely loved our 2 night stay.

Beautiful, atmospheric, historic inn. Would highly recommend, especially for the friendly staff. Might not be suitable for someone with limited mobility, however, as there are a lot steps in the hotel - check with staff first as to alternative access points.

The staff were all very friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we were made ,welcome from the first time we steeps into the bar. Our room was very stylish and the bed was comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant on one of our nights and that too was lovely. My husband had to leave the table and return to our room for some medical care and his meal was taken away, kept warm and replated when he returned.
