The Corner House Hotel is an ornate Victorian property in the centre of Taunton. Vivary Park and Museum of Somerset (housed in Taunton Castle) are 10 minutes' walk away.
Taunton is situated midway between the Quantock Hills and Blackdown Hills. Both have been designated National Landscapes and are 10 minutes' drive away.
Hestercombe is a historic country house with 50 acres of parkland and gardens to explore. It's approximately 10 minutes' drive away. Dunster Castle is dramatically sited on a wooded hill, 50 minutes' drive from the hotel. It's existed since the Norman times and part of the National Trust.
Glastonbury, "a town teeming with myths and legends" (The Metro) is 45 minutes' drive away. So too Cheddar Gorge, with its immense cliffs and striking subterranean show caves.
*A Sunday Roast menu operates on Sundays - the dining credit is redeemable against this but not on the Sunday à la carte menu. Dining credit cannot be used against 'From France with love' menu which runs 10–15 February, 2025.

Hotel was lovely, friendly staff. Cream tea on arrival was lovely and Dinner that night very tasty.
Bowl, treats, ball and blanket in the room for our dog, which was a nice touch.

Fabulous place with lots of character, the only down side was the stairs, lots of them and no lift. Which obviously would make it very difficult for anyone with mobility issues. Everything else was spot on. Great value deal too.

Staff took care of my mother & I by providing all we needed, switching heat off in our room (we don't like heating) providing extra pillows (I need to sleep upright) & ensuring the entrance was wider than normal for my wide walker & assistance dogs. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the room was comfortable with all the space we needed and access to the room and dining areas was straightforward - something we've had difficulties with at other hotels. Many thanks - shame you're not all over the South West.

I did feel that the room was warm but windows were openable
We were on the third floor which was fine for us but may have been difficult for anyone with mobility problems

The area is good for a base for sightseeing we visited Clark's Village, Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge, Dunster and enjoyed exploring Taunton
The town centre is within walking distance.

Just returned from a delightful overnight visit with friends, read earlier reviews so were expecting Corner House hotel to be good but we were wowed from the off. Check in was friendly and professional, our rooms were up the quite steep stairs but were average sized, clean, comfy and quiet with large, very comfy beds. High marks for the room fridge containing a small bottle of fresh milk to go with the branded teas and coffees, plus hair dryer and iron.
Back down for our delicious cream teas with warm, home made scones, perfect.
For dinner in the French inspired restaurant we chose the limited choice set meals (a more extensive a la carte menu is also available) but all four of us were delighted with our choices, ranging from my delicious minute steak and frites to a smoked haddock risotto. The creme caramel desserts were also a hit.
Good nights sleep and breakfast was excellent, I had the full English, several other (healthier) options are available.
All in all, a very enjoyable break and all mebers of staff we encountered were excelent, we all agreed.

Staff very attentive except that we had a flickering bedside light and when we told them about it, they were unable to fix it for us because they don't have access to a maintenance man over weekends! Not impressed with that. Also the bathroom sink didn't empty very well and we told them on check out.

It was very good value through Travelzoo - the meal (fixed price) was fine if not exceptional. The room was a good size and comfortable. Only 6 mins to walk into the town centre so well positioned. Staff all very nice.

It was delightful. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. Great ambience with pleasant music at just the right volume not to spoil conversation. Attractive decor and room presentation. Room was spacious, clean and tidy. Dinner was delicious, plentiful, well presented and sooo tasty. And the scones on our cream tea were some of the best I've ever had.

Hotel is full of olde Worlde charm , staff cannot do enough for you. Rooms good size. Afternoon tea was delicious as was evening meal . Only criticism was I did not have a good nights sleep due to people in the room above being up most of the night and walking up and down their room which meant i heard every creaking floor boards below. They arrived early morning and did not have any consideration for others slamming doors to begin with. Otherwise a realy good offer and I would definitely go back and recommend.
