Why We Love It

  • The Daily Telegraph calls the hotel a "a peaceful retreat to escape the hustle and bustle" with an "abundance of character"
  • It's 10 minutes' drive from Cornwall's ancient capital, Launceston, which is known for its Norman castle, steam railway, and independent shops, and a 20-minute drive from the market town of Tavistock
  • The Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is dotted with picturesque villages, and is part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site, is around 15 minutes' drive away

Parking is free. Exeter St David's railway station is around a 45-minute drive away, and Plymouth railway station is about an hour's drive from the hotel. Well-behaved dogs can stay for £7.50 per night in selected rooms (enquire on booking). Children are not permitted as part of this offer.

What a little gem this hotel is, the Taster Menu was wonderful. The room had everything we required to make our stay comfortable. Staff very friendly and the whole hotel had a wonderful warm ambiance. This is what we love about deals on Travelzoo as we would not otherwise have found this great hotel.

Only one negative comment and that is the room was chilly until the storage heaters were switched on later in the day.

Excellent mini break. The food was superb and the amuse bouche was outstanding. Our room was very spacious. The staff were outstandingly pleasant given the extra work that Covid 19 has caused to the hospitality business.

Lovely welcoming staff and owner (chef). Food was great, in particular the tasting menu. Chef suggested changes where there were items that we would not normally choose. All covid measures were well enforced. A relaxing break that we will repeat.
