Historic building in the centre of Rye. Luckily got a space in the car park. Good COVID safety measures in hotel and restaurant. Enjoyed the set a la carte meal and breakfast. Would stay here again.

Lovely short break away, however the parking on-site is very hit and miss and even once you have booked in you cannot book parking for future nights

A wonderful building and the accommodation in keeping with the rest of the hotel. The choice on the dinner menu was a bit disappointing, 2 vegan, 1 steak, 1 fish, 1 chicken although well cooked. The full breakfast was a bit sparse by comparison to most other hotels in the class. Solid poached egg, half a tomato, small rasher of bacon and a sausage. All staff were friendly, efficient and acted professionally at all times.

This is a lovely pub. We visited last Friday, a day after the latest rules on social distancing came into place. The staff there are making a lot of effort to meet the new rules even though it's still new to them too. The evening meal was very nice too.

Lovely old building with masses of character. Very friendly helpful staff. Heating would have been nice as it turned cold suddenly and the old windows were a bit draughty. Being able to book parking would have been a good idea. As it was you had to drive up a steep, narrow, cobbled road to find out there wasn’t any and then go back down and pay in the public car park down the hill. First come first served is fine when it’s easy access. Puddings were disappointing choices; I understand there were some changes to the menu for Covid stuff but they were a bit unimaginative for the price. Overspill bar area a bit cold and unwelcoming bearing in mind you can only get 5 couples in the main bar.

We had a nice time. But if we knew the tighter government measures where to be introduced I would not have booked as they ruined my stay. No fault of hotel or staff.

Overall it was very pleasant. All the Staff were friendly and helpful.
The food apart from breakfast, was overpriced and very disserpointing.
And parking is a big issue. If you're not lucky enough to get a space in their car park, not a pleasant walk from the public car park up the cobblestone Road in the rain. And it cost an extra £7 to park overnight. Although I understand that they would normally supply valet parking. Until that resumes, it would put us off going back!

Fascinating hotel set in lovely and historic part of Rye, staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice. Lovely large comfortable room room but bathroom lacked a shower. Would have liked a hook in the bathroom just to hang my dressing gown.

The Mermaid is coping with Covid well, and the staff are as friendly and helpful as always. It's our go to hotel in this part of the world, and has never let us down.
Other Comments
Most of the building is 600 years old, so expect wonky floors and the occasional low beam. It won't have every facility absolutely up to date, the fabric of the building doesn't allow for it. But on our last stay we slept in a bed that was 360 years old. If you want atmosphere and history you've come to the right place.

Loved the Tudor rooms and atmosphere, staff were attentive and although busy gave their attention and were very polite and professional (especially with the ongoing COVID situation at present). Quirky building and location was spot on for wandering the market town and antique and vintage finds a plenty! Had an exceptional evening meal at The Mermaid Inn on night of arrival.
Thank you.

Helpful and professional staff. Very atmospheric. Dinner was good however the selection on the menu is limited, especially if staying more than two nights. Breakfast brought to the table was good. Car parking at the hotel is extremely limited due to space and it is quite a walk from the public car parks with luggage.
Other Comments
Would be unsuitable for anyone with any sort of mobility issues due to steep staircases, uneven floors and changing levels. The ensuite bathroom only had a bath with handheld shower attachment which was not what we expected and the water pressure was very low.

We had a meal in the restaurant on our first night. Excellent food and service. Found that attention to detail at breakfast was not so good. I know they were busy. Toast arrived but no butter, asked and never arrived so toast was left. Ordered drinks in outside bar had to go an ask again as did not arrive.

Biggest problem which might cause for more elderly wound be the steep stairs and the cobbled roads leading to the Mermaid.. Ourself did have a bit of trouble getting up the stairs but had help with our cases by a very friendly staff throughout the hotel.. Our room was a bit small but we was using a £99 b & b vouchers for 2 night . Finally was lucky to get parked up but very tight

Wonderful stay in a beautiful location, COVID compliance was fantastic & all staff were very friendly indeed. Bar food was very tasty & drinks reasonably priced. Bedroom was cosy but well laid out, bathroom looked newly renovated with an excellent shower! Room was very warm overnight but fan provided if we needed to use it. Rye is a beautiful, chocolate box village with plenty to see & do, reception staff provided a very handy map to help us get around, we'll definitely be back!

A warren of tight corridors and steep stairs leading to public rooms and spacious bedrooms. On site parking is tight and resticted although moderately priced public carparks are readily available not far away but always a steep climb.
